So I purchased an inverter was 400 watt and the lil heater i bought was 400watt and itll start but then the inverter will poop out, I have the inverter connected to DC 120v outlet (cig lighter). What gives? If I have this correctly the cig lighter can only output around 100w-200w cus its connected to the cig lighter as opposed to the actual battery where I can get the full 400w with battery connections to the terminals? Thx for the help. If this inverter experiment doesnt work then I think its better to just buy a generator imo.

electric heat will kill a battery super fast. Unless you want to run a generator all night, dont bother.

The diesel parking heaters are EXTREMELY common and well reviewed in the RV and camping world. they are knockoffs of the Webasto and eberspacher heaters.

This one is mostly self contained. You can duct the heat into the bed of the truck.

OP: That one’s nicer than the one I posted, it has a box already built for it and is self standing. Just be sure the exhaust isn’t anywhere near the intake for the ducted heat fan. Best to leave it outside and then run a dryer vent hose into your tent from it.

The only drawback to this type of heater is after a while the heat exchanger ignition chamber can get clogged up with soot so you have to open it up and clean it out, there are some videos on YouTube how to do it.

Some little buddy heaters have low oxygen sensors and are supposed to shut off. I have one but I won't trust my life to it.

I do intend on getting an electric blanket to plug into a jackery

gases float & are found at different levels

for example a fire detector near the ceiling ( near not jammed in proximity )

is the best location usually 6-7 ft high

‘ carbon monoxide ‘ detectors are typically mounted incorrectly........

    best location is considerably l o w e r

the head level while sleeping / prone approx 3 ft form floor

camping the head would be lower than bed level

U want it to wake U BEFORE U get sick

BEFORE so U succumd to a gas U cant smell..................even in a ventilated area

If I were frequently sleeping in my shell during the winter I'd look into properly installing a small inexpensive diesel heater.

Propane heaters like the one OP mentions generate moisture so you wake up with everything being damp.

I would assume laying at the same level as you would qualify and either way, is supposed to detect levels well below anything that would cause health issues.

I've been using a Buddy heater in my tent for three years (spring & fall camping). It burns really clean. I use a Kidde CO detector with a digital counter and it has never gone above zero. The heater's biggest caveat is it projects a lot of heat upwards, so it may soften/warp the shell in the spot above the heater.

I’d find an auxiliary power unit that fits your budget and power consumption. Personally I’d shop around with Jackery.

100w blanket is good enough for me and the inverter.

Are you using the bed inverter? I must’ve misread where your power station kept shutting off.

oh i bought a lil heater and it was pulling 400w and my inverter was like around that peak wattage and it pooped out on me, so i’ll just use an electric blanket.

ELectric blankets are underrated. Glad you found a solution. Happy and safe exploring. :hattip:

Sorry for the revive thread but I had an idea if it were to get really effin cold, if I somehow put my lil buddy heater propane heater outside on a stool where its facing my windoor and I open the lil window to let heat in, will it melt my mesh for the window? has anyone tried this? I would imagine that it would be safe or counter productive cus the window is open, idk.

OP....with all due respect. The path you are suggesting is a sure way to win the Darwin Award and be removed from the gene pool.

STRONGLY urge you to go to a camping store and purchase a sleeping bag with a below 0*F rating.

    Or

Get a small gas power generator, a 25-50 ft extension cord and an electric blanket. Set the genny away from the truck, use the extension cord, plug the blanket into the extension cord. Sleep on top of half of the blanket, pull the other half over you. You will be like a bug in a rug, nice-n-cozy.

Last point, leave the propane heater for a large open, ventilated space. CO death is silent and permanent.
