If you could build a stock 07 Toyota Tacoma AC into an Expo Rig for $4-4.5k what would you do?

She's not completely stock, but not setup as an offroading rig. I'm looking to hit UT, AZ, NM, CA and maybe a few other states on my way across the country this summer and would like a rig setup to do it. Would need it setup for camping using a tent, but I don't need the whole rooftop camping setup either.

I'm looking for suggestions on lift, armor, tires, and equipment. I'll need to be completely self-sufficient. I will have a buddy, but only using one vehicle.

Specific questions on equipment and gear include - do I need a dual battery setup? I'm not big into rock climbing so are skid plates really necessary?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Check out Expo portal.com. No offense to anyone here but most people on this site know nothing about this stuff. There is only a small group of us here. I modified my 2009 for expo and now have somewhat of a blank canvas with my 2012. I'm doing it right this time and haven't spent much money yet (most of the parts I plan on getting aren't in the country yet). Do some research like I did and you be amazed at what's out there. I'm building my truck for a trip in the fall with another member on this site.
