Other than color, I was happy that I had a few to choose from in the config that I wanted. BR was an instant hit when I saw it. I never thought that I would own a red car or truck.

I couldn't find a manual within a reasonable driving distance when I got mine , and the ones that I did find were all decked out optioned out trucks , I was after a basic builder . And I have seen a few broken manuals lately … misuse or failure ? synchro's failing ? and the auto has learned how I drive and responds much better now 3k into my commute ! But I still like to Launch once in a while ……..

This is why I traded for a mt. The gears in the auto are way too high, especially for interstate driving or towing.

Im 55 now. I didn’t mind MT growing up, had both.

IMO there is no advantage now with a manual in performance. Automatics are fine 4 wheeling. Plus living in a big city and traffic, shifting gets old.

Plus when I used to race, I had to get an Automatic so in case I got injured, my wife could drive me home or to the hospital .

Still need a 6' box and the larger back seat of the double cab so until Toyota makes a DCLB w a manual tranny I'm stuck with the auto for now.

Where I live, used MT tacos sit for months. You can talk the sellers down when they get desperate. Enthusiasts want them for sure, but for your average bear, it’s a “pass”. Don’t buy an MT if your goal is resale value. Buy it because you want it, only.

I drive over 600 miles a week in a high traffic area for work alone. Maybe I'm just hardwired, but even in traffic the idea of an auto doesn't cross my mind.

Does do the standards have adaptive cruise control?

Shopping for a new truck right now and was planning on getting an auto but there's a great deal on a DCSB 4x4 Sport MT at a dealership not too far from me... I've been driving standards for years but not sure if I want to keep doing it

    Exactly!

Couldn't sell manual Golf R or Audi S4. Nobody can drive them anymore. That's why Audi dropped there manuals, not because a few hardcore wanted it.
This board does not reflect the general populous.

Hard to believe the reason the Golf R or Audi S4 didn't sell was because of a MT!? I would never drive either of those cars without 3 pedals.

I know in the BMW M (and BMW in general) the used market 6 speeds are most desirable and bring thousands more over an auto/smg.

I don't think that the manual Tacoma will necessarily bring more or less money. In my opinion it seems that younger people tend to drive manuals. Most likely most of them cannot afford to buy a third gen Tacoma brand new right now. Once these trucks start getting older and more affordable to other groups of people, the MT may just be a bit more desirable.

Selling is all about what you are willing to take for your truck. More rare = more money truck for truck i.e. same options etc. Its not always about KBB. You can use the manual as a selling point if you stand your ground with a dealer or buyer.

I’ve sold a manual 2014 Sport in the past and this worked extremely effectively for me.

That really surprises me. But, I do tend to live under a rock.

Very true. I am pleased with the poll results.

Of course $300 vs. $2000. Who wouldn't take the $300. I think you are comparing apples to oranges though.

    $300 for DYI
    $2000 for a mechanic

There is no way you can find a mechanic that will do a clutch properly for $300. This would include resurfacing or replacing the flywheel. You might be able to do it yourself for that. I've never paid anyone less than $600 in 20 years. If you own a vehicle with a decent AT (no Chrysler, Mazda, or Subarus) you should be able to get 200K+ miles with only oil changes. My '97 4Runner with 265K miles has had zero issues with the AT and gets it's fluid changed every 30K miles. My POS Chrysler minivan years ago ate an AT at 27K and 60K miles.

The biggest factor is the driver and environment. If you baby the clutch and live in a flat environment you'll get much more mileage out of it. If you live where I do on the side of a mountain and have to start many times on a steep hill then the clutch will wear more. Also the skill level of the driver is a big variable. I have many relative and friends that drive MT and I myself did for decades. It's rare to get more than 120K out of a clutch here. My last Honda my wife drove ate a clutch and/or throw-out bearing at 80K miles. Do that a few times and an AT is much cheaper. She is terrible at a MT but what to do except replace a clutch or buy her an AT. Having her in a AT has saved me a fortune.

The advantage in the 3rd gen is the gear ratios in the manual. It’s a completely different driving experience with the manual.

I mean.....according to that chart. The Automatic has lower gear ratios (4-5-6) for interstate driving compared to the manual.
