Not sure if this is the case anymore. Did a quick search on autotrader (within a 500 mile radius) and automatics are generally being sold higher than manuals (search pattern: 16-18 Used Tacoma Off Road). Although this could be dependent on zip code.

Additional factors such as people not knowing or wanting to drive manuals anymore could play a role in this. Supply and demand.

If my '17 Limited were totaled today, I'd buy a white '19 Limited. The only options I'd change would be the get the Predator steps, and the tailgate lock that wasn't available when I bought mine. I spent too much time in traffic for a manual. I drove stick cars exclusively for 25 years. I'm over it.

I'd keep the manual hands down. If I decided to get an automatic I would get a Raptor or a TRD Pro Tundra. Most likely a Raptor, though.

I'm fairly certain that you realize that there is no software at all in the MT clutch or gearbox? That is an engine update thread that performs the same miracle that it does on the motor for the AT Tacos.

You guys get two update files, we get one from a poorly worded TSB.

Bought an MT Off Road. Like it a lot but I don't wheel a lot and my wife refuses to learn manual. Also, after 10K miles, the floaty OR suspension is starting to bum me out especially on highway curves. If I had to do it again I'd probably get an AT Sport and hope for the best with the latest ECU TSB.

I also didn't even look at AT when I bought and ordered my MT. Waited 8 weeks. The only things I'd like changed (probably just me) is I'd like to have the same overdrive (to help highway mileage) and reverse ratios as the AT and that leaving it in a lower gear would hold back on a down hill.

I was referring to the fact that there was an electronic update for the manual trucks as well, yes.

Yeah there is an update, but oh yeah... Just about all the dealerships are shitbags and don’t want to help. It’s sad. Our trucks are much better off than yours by leaps and bounds, but the update seems to still be very benificial nonetheless. Hopefully I can get mine done soon.

It really depends on your market. Many places there's a substantial premium on MT but others, nobody wants anything to do with them.

I actually didn't really care about the Tacoma part... I bought the Toyota because they make a manual with the larger motor and I don't have any regrets about the transmission at all. Would buy again.

I would have preferred a MT, but I really wanted a "long bed" and the double cab, so I opted for the AT instead.

The update was friggin' stellar. I'm glad that both drivetrains got some well deserved attention. With the help of some excellent TW'ers, sideloading it was a breeze.

Even extending the search string to all of United States. Automatic Tacos are generally priced higher than their MT counterparts. I don't believe that a MT holds a premium over AT in this day and age. At least not with the given data.

Not that it matters much, but what are you see for the difference? ATs are a $1,200.00 option to start with.

Oops! A $1,370.00 option on the Sport ACLB.

It's funny, but I would have paid double that for an MT option, and I'm a cheapass.

You have to wait several years.

1st Gen MT are selling for quite a lot more, haven’t searched 2nd Gens

Yea I remember the 16 sport I drove being clunky too. My buddy had a 98 5-speed. I loved driving that thing. Honestly that truck was my I bought my 03 but it was auto. Anyway a hell of a truck. I see why most people opt for auto

Correct, the argument is based on the value of a used AT vs MT Tacoma. The perceived rarity of a MT because they aren't readily available.
