If you could do it over again, would you still have lifted your truck?

I would. Been running an ome kit for 50k miles...not a single issue. I’d be bored of the truck if it wasn’t modified.

I think a lifted Tacoma looks bad ass!

I have zero need for a lift. I just smile from my stock truck and admire the lifted ones I see.

I know for a fact if I was looking for a used truck, I'd never buy one that had been lifted. Read too many people asking for help here on post lift problems.

I am someone who can't leave well enough alone and initially was planning on lifting my Tacoma. It wouldn't be my first lifted vehicle so what would I care. That being said you can run 33's stock (with narrow tires) so I'm going to be doing that. My Taco is my DD and it needs to fit in downtown parking garages if I ever start working in the office again.

3" OME w/ AAL + SPC Upper control arms. BFG KO2 265/70/R17. Not my daily driver. Mostly used on weekends and overland excursions. Never abused but usually taking the road less traveled. I did the lift because I personally feel it's better to have more capability than not. Not saying they're not already capable but I'm just not a very experienced offroader and this gives me peace of mind. This suits my needs. If it were a daily driver then maybe not. But I have never regretted it one bit.

Eventually these trucks need maintenance, stock or not. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Have had a few lifted and a few not. I will won't lie a lifted taco looks better than a stock one, but I also wont be someone who tells you it does not effect components, wear and tear, mpg, etc. Anyone who says different is trying to convince themselves otherwise, usually its nothing big that you can't handle with some light experience with a wrench, etc. but even a 3'' lift will cause increased wear and tear to components and you will find yourself addressing something at some point down the road you wouldn't have had to on a stock truck. Then there is the money factor, if money is of no object to you and you want to personalize your truck, totally get it, but it does decrease your resale value compared to stock (again tons of people will lie to themselves on this) and you will never get that money back, but life is short, do what you want. I will say something about driving a built taco over stock just makes you walk a bit taller, not sure what it is, maybe pride in the build or just my self esteem issues linked to my truck, lol, but at this stage in my life the value just isn't there, follow your own path and do whatever YOU want, people spend money on all kinds of pointless stuff, such is life, enjoy it.

265/70/17s on stock suspension. All you really need. I might do bilstein 5100 with a new leaf pack, but thats way into the future.

Edit: 265/75/16 works great too. Or you can always go the pizza cutters route.

For me, suspension changes up or down on any vehicle are purpose driven, and while the resulting 'looks' factor is important to me, it's still secondary to function.

My poor man's 5 lug is 1" of actual ground clearance higher due to installing 2" larger diameter tires. Done on OE wheels with no lift/rub/cutting/bending. Nice benefits in ride/handling ingress/egress.

If I ever had a 4wd 3rd gen I'd be all about the skinny 33" for lift w/o suspension work and the looks of a fuller wheel well.

This was lowered about 1.5" for the purpose of SCCA fun. With upsized wheels/tires the wheel wells were nicely filled. But looks were still secondary to the podium. :D

Personally if I was going to drive a stock truck I might as well just drive a car because I would be just as miserable but save money and get better mpgs. Nothing wrong with a mild lift and 32's or 33's. If done right your not hurting anything besides some power loss and worse mpgs. Be prepared to regear. These trucks should have come factory with a 2.5" 33s and 5.29s. In the end its your $$$ so do what makes you happy!

Would say its the primary reason for most TW /3rd gen owners, lol.

6112's are adjustable, I have them on 3/2 which gives about 1.25" on my 2nd gen. Have an icon progressive AAL in the back with no overload for 1.5" back there but more like 1" with sandbags for the winter. The ride is much better than stock on and off road.

No need for a lift. If all you want is big tires. I will say it looks funny to see stock height with 35 tho. I have 35s on with stock suspension. All I did was some cutting. It rubs a little full lock in reverse, but could probably be fixed with an alignment (my caster cams are in the middle).

Absolutely, but I've never been one to leave well enough alone with my vehicles. Every vehicle I've owned has never been stock when I got rid of it. It's not that hard to maintain reliability if you don't cut corners. That being said, as others have mentioned it will result in quicker wear of certain items so you gotta be ready to pay to play. Plus I'm absolutely in love with how it looks. I'm a firm believer in the idea that if you don't look back after you park and walk away you bought the wrong vehicle. Do I NEED the lift? Eh, debatable. I don't go offroad every weekend and its largely my DD, but I have gotten and have plans to get into some places where it's beneficial. At the end of the day unless someone else is making your payments, don't let anyone tell you how to spend your money on your truck.

A stock truck can go on 95% of the trails I drive on. Just dropping your tire pressure alone makes a huge difference. The only question is how fast do you want to get to the end and how much are you willing to pay for that additional enjoyment? Similarly, a Honda Civic will get you to point A to point B, same as a 911 Turbo will; I promise you the 911 will be a lot more fun, though.

It sounds like OP is only asking about looks, though. If its looks you are after, leave the suspension bone stock and upgrade to pizza cutters when your current set wears out. You get the aggressive look and maintain some of the existing ride characteristics, all with minimal costs since you need new tires anyway.

The factory leafs suck, so nope, I don't regret my lift one bit.

I would. I lifted my front a half inch with 6112's and put 5160's on the back, the ride improved greatly.

Here's what you do, go find a $500 fard ranger to drive around for a day. Then when you get back in your taco it will feel like a monster truck. lol

Literally on the same boat as you OP. Just got mines yesterday. I think rocking some 265s in the near future will be enough for a bit. I’ll probably work on some interior/exterior mods for now.
