If you could do it over again, would you still have lifted your truck?

I've considered this as well. I thought about using the coilovers and then get the extended 2.0 rears, an add-a-leaf, and call it a day. If anything extra, I'd upgrade the ucas for a better alignment. That would allow me a small amount of rake without being excessive. Although adding the factory OR suspension and ditching the Hitachi setup has been great for 54k now.

I'm in the group that probably doesn't need a lift, but dang, I love it so much more with it. I was very particular however in that I only wanted 2" because I didn't want my tires to suddenly look small (and have to go down the rabbit hole of fitting 33's) and it seems that the ≥3" lift tends to lead to more issues (not a guarantee, but less likely at 2"). I went Bilstein 5100s on all four and a Deaver add a leaf. I've had no issues whatsoever, and I personally think it drives a lot better, a lot less spongy and I no longer have a significant driver's lean (it's there a little but I have to be going pretty fast).

I'm not completely sure what your goal is, is it to fit 33's? If that's the goal, then you probably will end up lifting it.

Stock works great for me . If your mall crawling what is the point .I can understand if you do a lot of off roading . Having a lift just for looks is a waste of money . Better off just going bigger tires to give it the aggressive look .

 

I'm more into function over form and have no intentions of lifting mine.

I'm going to stuff skinny 33's under it, so I'll get the extra ground clearance and still maintain simplicity and reliability since it's my DD'er.

With that being said, I'm a bit biased as I prefer the looks of a large tire stuffing the wheel well with minimum lift.

I think what often gets overlooked is that these Tacoma's aren't 'big tire friendly' without hacking the cab and wheel well. Even with a lift, when that suspension compressions and you're fully locked, the cab\wheel well will still need addressed.

CMC and do some trimming first, if you still think you need a lift, then go for it.

The ride is considerably better than stock on and off road and I can fit tires that don't belong on an SUV.
Did it mess with my long term reliability? Highly likely. Bombing down dirt roads wouldn't have helped that on stock suspension either when my stock rear shock leaked after the first real weekend out.

 

I did 1.5 all the way around. Kept the tire size stock. Wheel and rim combo is the same weight as stock. It performs better than stock on road and off. Could not be happier! I did spend the money on Elka coil overs/shocks and @HeadStrong Off-Road leaf pack.

 

Got some 5100s for the front, 230 w shipping from Rockauto. Seems decent value to get a little lift and upgraded ride.

I had a lift on my 2005 SR5. Loved that truck. But it came with a lift when I bought it. I must admit I liked how aggressive it looked -- all black, lift, rugged Nitto terra grapplers. But the reality is that I didn't need it. To be honest, I never felt comfortably with the lift from a mechanical perspective. Two reasons -- I am not that great of a mechanic and there are really not great shops here that I felt could help me think through the lift and make sure it was solid.

When I upgraded to the TRD OR 2020 I figured the suspension was absolutely perfect for everything I want to do -- on road driving, light off roading and occasional really tough trails in the Northeast (which can be challenging but are not that rough compared to other places in the West). I changed the tires from stock to Nitto and it looks and works perfect for me.

So right now I have perfect function for my needs and don't plan on doing a lift but instead adding a few things like a roof rack, bed rack and a few other things that I need.

All that said, if I was in the West or any place where there were more abundant and better shops accessible to me that do lifts, I might do a small lift just to raise the profile and make the truck a bit more aggressive. Not too high but just a slight lift even though I don't really need it.

 

I love my $30 hockey puck front lift and my $100? rear blocks. I wouldn't change a thing.

Call me getting old and boring but nothing beats a clean stock truck, ages better than aftermarket special IMO. All I need for trips to bed bath and beyond and dad’s farm.

 

Though I do miss this lovely lady, at times.

 

I couldn't be happier with my boring old man truck. This is the only off roading I do.

Hell...I even left the ugly plastic thing under the bumper.

 

I have to respectfully disagree. Bolt on suspension upgrades hardly degrades overall relatability of this truck. Several members here and people in general have hundreds of thousands of miles on lifted rigs with minimal maintenance.
Yes it kills gas your mileage but the engine itself doesn’t know what coil overs you have. Just sayin

Re read some of these posts in this thread, you’ll see people who have tons of miles With lifted rigs with no issues.
I don’t know, this could be argued all day. A small mild lift, if done right in my opinion doesn’t affect long term reliability.

 

Your 2019 with how many miles...don't really need to go back, guessing most these guys are under 60k miles, since we are talking 3rd gens, looks like many are new so even less, hardly "hundred's of thousands of miles" as you put it and hardly enough time to see the effects on wear and tear items, not my first rodeo bud, 12 tacomas, 4 of them lifted, one with over a hundred thousand miles, stuff wears out faster and you do have to chase the occasional gremlin down the road, you'll see, unless of course you are talking your mild lift as in 1.5'' on 5100s, then ya different story.
