Heck, I regret even getting off-road oriented tires on my suspension. They make the truck feel slower, noisier and lower my MPG by about 2. 99.5% of all my driving is on roads; the next set of tires will be right for pavement.

That opinion is just so far from accurate lol. A 2-3 inch lift with UCA’s is no less reliable than stock components. In fact many aftermarket suspension components are wildly more reliable than oem.

Kings @ 2.5” of lift up front, heavy duty Dakar’s in the rear, 285 70 17’s....Really considering going back to stock height and 265’s.

With the 285’s I didn’t really gain that much clearance on the trail— I also rub more And I just wanna say I got more articulation from the 265’s and better on road manners....anyone else feeling the same?

I did in my 15, not fancy kings, but had an ICON stage III setup and 285's. That and with spending 99.99999% of my time on road these days, I can resist the mod bug and digging into the wallet.

No one was arguing the components themselves, agreed some aftermarket stuff is superior to OEM, but a 3'' lift and 285s are going to put more increased wear and tear on a rig than stock, not really a debate there.

We are a generation apart but totally on the same page !

I have made a few tweaks but those tweaks are driven by function. Now, don't get me wrong, if I add something functional I want it to look good but I tend not to add things just for the look only. You are right -- left alone these are good looking trucks. I am not a Ranger hater at all -- and I do think Ford does have decent to good product design -- but I think just from a design perspective the Tacoma looks significantly better.

That said, I did remove the stickers off the bed sides. My wife is a designer and she hated them. Her first comment to me on the new truck as really like it -- but get that crappy typeface off the side of the bed ! :)

I changed the tires to the Nittos. Looks much better but I actually needed them for light off roading. I do want to put on a roof rack and a bed rack maybe down the road change the back bumper but that is about it.

I have 17 OR just put on 265/75/16 Cooper at3 4s, planning on adding SSO slimline full plate bumper ~90lbs, no winch, and looking at small lift 2/2 at Elka level 1 2.0 for 2inch in front an 2inch full leafs in back, probably do UCA also and ECGS at same time. Want to do it right once an be done. I don't need more lift then that for my needs. Was also looking at Eibach, toytec, Dobinson but seeing mixed reviews an sagging, which i know can an will happen with any brand. I'm in Ohio so have to deal with winters they use brine an salt on roads.

2.5 inch boss in the front, 10 leaf pack in the back with some boss rear shocks. Rides better than stock. Slapped some 33s on it.

I live in a florida flood zone that has hydro locked a lot of engines. I don’t regret my decision at all. Useful and looks cool as shit.

I can bomb down pot holed, not really maintained dirt roads with out getting the crap kicked out of me. It's just a much smoother ride overall.

I think thats the other thing that is preventing me from lifting. Honestly the 2-3" lifts out there don't add much ground clearance at all. Its almost pointless imo. And then once you get into the larger lifts it just gets too expensive and IMO the TACO's performance is just so basic Its not worth it. Also my priorities too have changed. Instead of a LIFT. I'm thinking of just re-gearing. That will probably be a way bigger improvement on the truck than a lift.

I agree with this sentiment. Funny how trends lead to the perception that things “must” be done. 99% of people with the typical stacked mods get out maybe once a year, if that. I was there, I did the full build thing on my 5th gen Runner. Even had a pro grill, lol. In the end, full weight, full build rigs are not well mannered on the roads. You’re kidding yourself if you believe it’s any better.

a stock truck with reasonable underbody protection and some tires will surely do as much as most are willing to with their kings, scs, prinsu, tent wielding builds.

Its all for the instagrams. Drive down a little dirt road with all your 10k plus in gear and take a few snaps. Then just go back home lol

When I first bought my truck, multiple people immediately asked, "When are you lifting and leveling?" It's like an automatic for most guys I guess? I like the factory rake and height! I'm definitely able to take my truck on some hairy (to me) trails and have tons of fun. Why waste the money! To each there own though, of course.

Right! Definitely a trend thing, I think the socials really added accelerant to it. I remember 2nd gen days most built slowly over time if at all, mods were a bit more functional than aesthetic then too. Jump on here now and seems every new 3rd gen owner first post is asking how to add bigger wheels, tires, lift, etc. and most are probably driving it as a DD in the burbs and mall parking lot. Eh.

I’m about to do it again, another Tacoma is around the corner. The last one was lifted to the semi extreme with 34’s, but no fender cutting. I could go on & on...

My plans for the new one, leveling the front and probably 265/75/16’s A/T tires. I don’t want to lose my power or street manors this time.

Plenty of trips to Home Depot in the new truck but what I really got it for was this trip (see attached PDF). I've made half the trip and it was tough. Hope to go all the way with my son before I drop dead. :). Needless to say, I prefer to make this trip stock. Seems like there is less risk -- and that says it all.
