Would've taken better care of the paint from the start. Getting all the crap from winter off in spring is really difficult. Paint around the grille is stained for some reason. Just should've paid better attention to the paint.

I guess this answers my questions about whether or not to get the pros.

Would have paid extra cash for the trade in value of my FJ, and just had to park it outside. Never hurts to have a spare FJ around. Well.... probably rarely hurts. :)

When Ford released the 10th gen sales were also awesome, but as they aged quality issues popped up.

I don't think the QDR was as good as prior gen Tacomas

Having talked to some senior members of this forum, they'll tell you the same things were said about the 2nd gen throughout its tenure as well

The 2nd gen never had 3rd brake light leaks, an unresolved NVH issue with the rear end, a transmission firmware issue, floppy hood from delam supports, an A/C whine that remains unresolved, and now a recent post about delaminating door panel fabric, not to mention the frames are still rusting, paint on some color codes is flaking not to mention rusty door stills, the few scarce reports of burnt valves, leaking timing covers, and a fuel pump recall that seems they can't address in a timely fashion.

The 2nd gen was likely peak quality at this point

2nd gens have timing chain stretching, Oil leaks from the timing cover, rack & pinion, rear axle seals, 4x4 front differential actuators problems, rusted frames and broken leaf springs, engine mounts blowing out, the secondary air injection problems from 2012, blower resistor, head gasket issues, needle bearing issues, LCA seizing, Temp/compass gauge resistor dying, warped factory rotors, seals on the oil pan, transmission pan, as well as front transmission seal on the 4.0. That's all I could think of off the top of my head and asking my brother what he sees a lot at his shop.

When you look at a sample size of HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS there are going to be issues. Of course, a website like this highlights the bad because people complain when their truck doesn't work. If it does work, they don't say a thing because that is what you expect a truck to do.

I'm not saying one generation is better than the other. What I am saying is they all have problems.

Would have gone with Barcelona Red instead of Sky Silver and long bed over short bed. Still would have stuck with the OR package though.

I bought the sports, installed them, drove around. Pulled them off, and bought the pro's. They're good but I expected more output and the pros have a more "wow" factor I expected from expensive LED pods. I will say if you like to drive with fogs on all the time maybe do the sports. While the pros are still street legal they are brighter than my actual headlights (led also) and throw a wider and taller beam than the sports, making me feel bad about oncoming traffic

Self control, the more people on TW try to be different the more they all look the same. I notice the Raptor lights nonsense has died down now

I’m new here but I have noticed the hive mind seems well established here. I’ve also learned that beauty is still in the eye of the beholder. Some of the things folks do to their trucks are horrible. To each their own though.

Wouldn’t have bought my ReTrax XR tonneau, would’ve got a bed cap instead. Not too many things I want to carry are less than 17.5 inches high so they’ll fit under the cover

2nd Gen was a boring “old man truck” that sold in limited quantities, mostly to old men.

Peak quality is just a perception due to not as many of them out there, and old men mostly sticking to the safe trails.

Luckily my 3G has none of the issues you listed, though I’m not surprised, with the number they are cranking out, that Toyota has some slip-ups. That’s what happens when you release the #1 selling mid-size pickup of all time.

I would have gotten a pro from the start instead of spending money to install pro parts in my OR. That being said, it’s been an awesome truck that has performed flawlessly and never disappointed me.
