Big Red fanboy here. XR650L for the apocalypse, CRF450X for the tomfoolery. If I had to pick one it would be the old, heavy, slow one.

    Edit: I have a CRF1100 Africa Twin.

I heard theres so many improvements over the 1000. Suspension, ergonomics, and interface- I have Apple carplay (not that i use it all the time, but I guess its nice to have music)

Maybe you don't ride very far because your bike is a sumo? Not hard to average 15-20k miles a year when you've got a comfortable bike to do it on.

I'm willing to stick with my current ride, Yamaha FJR1300. Gen 3 2013 on up with the 2014 being my preference based on the paint color. The 2016 on up with 6 speed and all LED lighting would be nice but not available in my choice of color. I've yet to ride a Super Tenere so that could be a possibility worth considering. I don't ride off road at all so dirt isn't a priority but unpaved roads would have to be better on the ST than they are 2-up on the FJR.

If Yamaha eventually adds CarPlay to the super tenere, I’d finally trade mine in. They definitely aren’t bleeding edge when it comes to tech… but they are reliable so I can’t complain too much

I don't think they'll be changing anything on it. They've actually stopped selling it in Europe because it doesn't meet the new emissions standards. If they create a new one it might have it, but it'll be an all new bike as well. Not sure they'll bother, because of the less than stellar buzz with the current ST. Kills me because I can't find anyone that has one that doesn't just love it, but all the "journalists" and reviewers just shit on it because of it's stats on paper.

Yeah I haven’t seen anyone say anything bad about it. Think everyone just gravitates to the bmw gs.. when you could have the super T for a fraction of the price

I tend to agree. If the GS were at the same price point with the same features as the ST, I would consider it, but the base model GS is way more. I just can't stomach spending $20K+ on a bike because I can't use it year round. My first brand new car was $20K OTD, not MSRP, so no way I can spend that on a purely seasonal vehicle.

NGL, though, I think the new 1300 GS is sex AF. If Yamaha refreshed the ST and trimmed a little weight off it, I'd probably have to get one. As it stands, I am resisting out of a desire to be frugal.
