Im bias, but some variation of the KTM 690 / Husky 701 / GasGas 700.

Get two sets of wheels for street and off road. Removable front fairing if you’re in to adventure riding or if you need more wind protection. Removable luggage racks, etc.

It’s a 330 pound bike with 74hp and 54 ft/lbs of torque. So it’s about as quick as a super sport under 60 mph with the ability to be fully converted in to an “off road” adventure bike. It also has long maintenance intervals.

    Like I said, I’m bias

Today, thinking Honda and an NC750X. I like simple and easy to maintain along with the ability to run Texas speed limits in the far reaches of the state. Havent bought it yet, will sometime in the next month or two.

Currently on a KLR650 that I have ridden for the last 16 years, cheap to ride, easy to maintain. Has spent a bit of time on 500 mile days, hence the highway pegs. Kills my left knee after a couple hours. Doesnt do Texas interstates worth a shit (winds blow you around and at 80 mph it will go through oil) but at sedate speeds it will get you there with little drama. I have grown attached to it.

Nice bike! They're so much fun to ride, I love mine probably favorite motorcycle I've owned.

I want to say it could be my one and only...but it's not the greatest on long highway rides so think I'd have to choose a larger displacement bike. But aside from that the 701 SM is my go-to

Thank you! I'm sure you probably right about longer rides. I should have put a caveat in my post that my highway seat time rarely goes over 1 hour in a single sitting.

I've had 4 street bikes in my lifetime. None of them properly licensed and never had a motorcycle license. I don't need no stinking "directions".
My favorite bike was a Triumph Trophy 500 that I bought for $50 and rebuilt it myself. I had to sell it for College tuition. I've started riding in
the early 70's, yes I am an old fart.

I purchased my dream bike a few years back. Not a daily ride for sure, so HD got my vote. I do love my 2002 Low Rider and that is my ideal daily now that I'm older.

You can always fix what you dont like and keep riding your current one. I have heard the CB500X responds well to one tooth larger front sprocket. My KLR was an add on to a GL1800, I kept the 1800 for about 8 years and finally sold it and kept the KLR. I spent as much on things done to my KLR to make it better at travel than the bike cost originally. Biggest improvements in comfort were a Turbo City windshield on Madstad brackets, a Mayer saddle and a tooth larger on the front sprocket to mitigate oil burning at higher speeds. Adding Happy Trails panniers and top box gave me the ability to take enough for a couple nights on the road. It would go anywhere the Goldwing would go, just not as quickly or comfortably. The Goldwing on the other hand would not go anywhere the KLR would, it was a handful on gravel. What I dont like is tubed tires and a generator that cant keep up with high beam headlights and an electric jacket and gloves when it's cold.

Wanting a more versatile bike is how I ended up with the KLR650. There really is no bike that does it all, you just have to decide where you want to sacrifice. Actually I may look at a CB500, there is a lot to be said for lighter weight. When my KLR falls over loaded with gear, it's like a 600# sheet of plywood, it is flat on the ground. LOL

Perhaps with those choices he understands the likelihood of only one running at a time......

I rode my buddies 690 it
I have a buddy with a KLR650 and is waiting on his 2012 GL1800 to be delivered to his house haha.

He had my WR250R before with a Vstrom, but now come around to different settings.

It's odd how fast we change our minds.

For sure, when I had the Goldwing I was traveling far for no other reason than just a get away for a few days. Wake up Saturday morning and tell my wife, I'm craving oysters. She would ask where? I would say maybe Corpus Christi. She kept a bag packed, run 6 hours to Corpus, eat a nice dinner, grab a hotel room, ride back home Sunday morning.

She was starting to have back problems and about 5 years ago her Doc told her, fall wrong you could end up in a wheelchair the rest of your life! He didnt know we rode, needless to say, that took her off the back of the bike.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
I bought the '99 Honda VFR800fi new, and still don't see a bike I would want to ride more "every day". The KLR answers most of my dirt needs, but I'm thinking hard on getting that Honda 125 trail. A real zip around bike! ;-)
