Dad has an 4.7 '07 Tundra and it is fun to drive and great on roadtrips (my dad is 6' 7" ~320 and I am 6' 4" ~220)

BUT eats gas like cookiemonster. (In town right now getting ~10 mpg, with a shell, some tools, winter gas and a short commute...)

I will get a Tacoma(ACLB), but wish they had the option of a small V8 like the 4runners do for better towing options...

Yeah, you're probably right about towing capacity, I wouldn't even buy the V8... but idk, would be cool in a X-Runner or something too... :D

I had a 2000 Taco Extra Cab, a 2001 Tundra Access Cab and now 2008 Taco DCSB and I would go with the Taco. Ride's nice 4x4 doesn't isn't too bad on gas if you keep under 2k RPM.

I guess it depends on what you're doing.

I own both and love both equally for different reasons. The Tacoma is fun to drive around town, pick up small loads of gravel/mulch/firewood, light offroading, etc. I also like driving it without passengers. Im 6'1" 220 and I feel very cramped in it. I can get between 275 to 300 miles on about 15 gallons. The Tundra is awesome to tow my dads camper, hauling the larger loads of whatever, long trips, the interior space/comfort even with passengers. I can get between 375 to 425 miles on approximately 20 to 21 gallons with the 5.7 V8; load free.

My next truck will be a CrewMax Tundra.

Yeah but Tacoma towing capacity is actually not because engine/build but because its midsize truck so to avoid label of full size and be able to be registered as personal use only vehicle it has to be under some Gross combined weight number which I think in most states is 11000lb.

But I'd get another Tacoma over a Tundra.

At the time, i wish i would have gotten the tundra. It would not have fit in garage though.

I personally love the tundra engine (5.7L), but not the body style. My next truck will probably be a titan double cab long bed.

I had a 2007 Tacoma and traded it for a 2008 Crewmax Tundra 4x4 with the 5.7 back in '08. Had to dump the crewmax to free up money because of a divorce less than a year later.. The worst feeling in the world giving up a truck you love without a choice. I now have a 2011 Tacoma crewcab 4x4 with the 6 sp. and I love it. But there are definitely times when I wish I had my Tundra back. Mainly on road trips. And my kids are getting pretty tall. They get about the same gas mileage which is why I traded the '07 in on the Tundra in the first place. Bigger, badder truck for the about the same operating costs.

Oh and as much as Tundra would be nice I want something that burns less fuel.
Tacoma is impossible to beat, getting 24-25 MPG on highway on drive to work. And thats in Double cab Long Bed 4x4 with v6 and Auto tranny :D
So during a week this is my commuter and on the weekend is my work horse. High clearance (higher then Tundra) in winter makes Tacoma very good rescue vehicle.

I'm kind of in that boat now. I LOVE everything about my '07 AC, it's got all the options I'd want, but the micro back seat has turned out to be a deal breaker for family trips in it. If I could trade for an identical DCLB I would in a heartbeat.

The Tundras are nice, but they're so freaking huge. And upgrading to get to the same off road functionality of the Taco would be $$$. My Taco is already set up to handle just about all the off roading I could want, but I don't know if the bigger Tundra could get to the same places without dumping a ton of money into it.

Gas mileage sounds about the same, though. I was surprised when I kept consistently getting <15 MPG. I thought a V6/6-speed manual combo would be better, but I guess not with MTs, lift and ARB bumper/guard/winch weighing down the front.

I could always try out the Tundra, but I just know I'd miss my Taco. It's the perfect size for everything I need, except in the back seat.

Realistically what I have is perfect for what I need. But in a perfect world where money is no object I world I would get a 5.7l tundra supercharged and long traveled. It would go really fast really quick and do it everywhere.

I bought a 2000 tundra new and now have 250K on it. I then bought a 2008 tundra crewmax limited and put 100K on it but never did like it because it was too big. I am 6' and could not reach over it and get something out of the bed. It took all the room of my garage, so I traded it on a 2015 tacoma 4x4 off road and I love it. I even pull a 23' travel trailer with it and it does fine.

My neighbor just picked up a 2015 Tundra Quadcab TRD and its a good looking truck but man does it look huge. There is no way it would fit in my garage. For me the Tacoma is just right.
