    Just bought it!
That was a serious concern of mine. When I traded in my tacoma I was debating between an f150 and a tundra. Seeing the price differences between used tundras and f150s really confirmed my opinion about which truck I'd be happy owning 6-8 years from now. Way too worried about engine issues with the ford, the drop in trade in value when I'm ready for something else... I'm not one to say all fords will fall apart(although that is my general opinion of dodges and chevys), but I know the Toyotas are the most reliable trucks on the road and that's my #1 factor when shopping for a truck.

I have a brother with an earlier Gen. Tundra access cab. My Double cab is a slightly smaller overall truck, but with lots more interior space.
Anyone ever compared the dimensions of the First gen tundras with a 2nd or 3rd gen taco?

I had a Tundra and didn't care for the gas mileage. The power and roomy interior was nice. 12mpg just wasn't doing it for me. I smiled every time I turned the key though. That motor was badass. When they put a V8 in the Tacoma I'll trade mine in. Until then I'll enjoy 18-20mpg.

I'm a hugeeee fan of all American diesels. I know Cummins when properly maintained will last a lifetime but I think all they're 1500 models blow

The only reason I looked at the Tacoma is because Ford stopped making the Ranger. My last truck was a Ranger & I wanted another small truck.
Now that I've owned the Tacoma for a year. I think it's the perfect size for me.

Expect replace dodge with SRW Chevy HD 2500 2wd Crew Cab Long Bed
If you expect to do a lot of hauling and Tacoma is not the vehicle for you unless it's light towing. Outside of that, no question. Now I just have to remember to force myself to get out and grab the 2500 at least once a month to keep it in good working order.

I will probably go with a Tundra heading in to retirement. Right now with my commute I prefer the Taco.

    How I think of it
I'm a college student. I'm not towing or hauling anything in my life, so I'm happy with my taco because I can go and have fun with it! Both sides of my family have had trucks since I've been born and this is my first truck, so it's a nice learning from something that's a little smaller than a full size (extended cab & bed superdutues and f150's like we have) on how to park em, how they handle on and off road, etc.

10 years into the future, if I had to choose again I'd go full size, but ford. Tundras are too thirsty compared to the 6.2L Ecoboost and I've heard too many bad things and not enough good about tundras

I'd of went with a long bed but it didn't fit in my garage so short bed it is. Other than that the Tundra is just too big for most of the parking spots.

Owned two 4dr LB gen2 tacos, just got an 06 gen1 tundra. Im sorry to say, but the tundra is twice the truck the taco ever was, not much bigger, not much worse on fuel, and CHEAPER than any used taco I could find. I have trouble understanding how a used gen1 tundra can be cheaper than an equivalent taco. Any thoughts as to why?
Having said that, if I was buying new, it would be a taco.....

I still own a 99 Ranger that my Tacoma was meant to replace. Solid, bulletproof truck and I was pissed when Ford stopped making them. I hope the Tacoma is as durable as my Ranger

They technically didn't stop making them. They have been available overseas for years.
They should be returning in 2017.

1,200 sounds really pleasant! I'm driving 2,400 monthly! 25,000 miles since February.

But from what I've gathered, they're a unibody truck now, more like the Honda Ridgeline and not like the Ranger you had before. I also heard that Honda is putting out a new Ridgeline, but it'll still be the same setup as last time. I'd really like to see a Honda truck that was as nice as the Tacoma just for some more options.

If the Tacoma went tits up I'd probably go with a Ranger assuming it was as good as my old 99. Original starter, oil pump, fuel pump and on and on. I've taken good care of her and hope she goes long enough for me to payoff the Taco.

Realistically, if someone crashed into my truck or it went missing, I think I'd buy another tundra, but this time I'd pick one from 07-13 instead of my 14. I think they're gorgeous trucks.

If their gas mileage didn't suck so bad I'd get a tundra in a heartbeat!
