nobody said it will stop a 9mm although it does cut down on its efficiency

... ^^^ ... Personally, I still would go with a 9mm with my skills (for number of rounds on target)... but your thought process is valid ... :D
Interesting point you made though ... never thought of this until now.

In WWI ... the heavy wool German Trench coats were stopping a lot of rounds and shrapnel. A special 3 & 4 sided "Pointed Trench Knife" was later invented to penetrate those heavy coats without wedging in the coats or bending.

I grew up with my grandparents and my grandfather fought in the WWI trenches and was later mustard gassed on the Argonne front and he used to talk about this. I also saw it on WWI TV special.

As you can see in this pic the 9mm using 147`s has more penetraion but has a much smaller cavity compared to the .45acp

They both have over the minimum 12 inch penetration, I wouldnt hesitate to use either of them but if I have a choice it will always be the .45acp

9mm you have to mop up the mess, .45 you have to scoop it up first

Eventually I will buy a .45 1911. But for now I only have one gun.

I was out of practice with pistols and wanted the lesser price of ammo to increase the amount I practiced with it... ball ammo is much cheaper in 9mm than .45. Shot placement, Shot placement, Shot placement

For real protection it was very easy to pay extra for good hollowpoint ammo which packs more than enough punch to get the job done....

    9mm.

As much as i hate to say, weight of the rounds really starts to come into play, along with carry capacity.

in a *frantic* situation with decent training, you're still going to fire your first shot wildly. Its your second and third that make the kill.
