If you hadn't bought a Tacoma, what would you be driving?

love my 17 GT and enjoyed driving it way more than a tacoma.

 

Lol. 45. I didn't say I didn't like driving it, but I'm a truck guy at heart and I missed the utility of it.

Tough question. I have to have a a truck or an SUV so:

Chevy - I'd rather own a jackass
Nissan - Only if they give away free replacement transmissions with them
Ford - Had two and they were good. But now? Ecoboost - Really?!! Aluminum body - Really, really?!!
Honda CRV - I considered it.

Probably the Honda.

 

I just cannot get with the current Lexus grilles. Too big, why? It's like Lexus hired the Acura grill guy, and he was hell bent on not doing the "beak" again, and this is what he came up with. Meh

 

The day I bought the Tacoma I had an F150 lined up as plan B.

Audi A3. Dealer didn’t want to deal so I bought a different toy.

 

I would be in a last-year (2011?) Ford Ranger with the 4.0, 5-speed, extended cab. I was actively searching for one but had a Tacoma as a second choice. The nice Rangers were way out of my price range, same goes for the nice low-mileage Tacos. I was getting frustrated because I had been searching for months but couldn't afford any of the trucks that were for sale.

When the previous owner listed my current Tacoma up for sale, I jumped on it (was the first one to respond to the ad) and bought it that following Saturday. I know a gem when I see one.

 

Tacoma was my first choice. I was planning on looking at the Rangers (I’ll never buy a 1st model year anything again), and seriously considering an F-150. I’ve driven a lot of RAM 5.7L Hemi’s and they drive and feel like great trucks...but...they start costing money really quickly.

I really expected to be buying a new F150 that day (3/1/2019). As hot as the Tacos are selling, I didn’t believe the dealer would be able to accommodate. As is evident, I’m driving another Taco

 

Sold my 94 Ranger and 14 Camaro when i bought the Tacoma. Still have an 03 Silverado which is mid-SAS, and a few Geo Trackers and XJ/ZJs for in the woods

 

2005 tundra V8 4wd 6” lift 35’s 54k miles, sold to my cousin for way to little money. Still wish I kept it.

 

I think I said this before, but either the 1996 Pathfinder my dad traded for the Tacoma, my mom's 2004 Honda Odyssey, or my grandma's 2000 Buick LeSabre with 35K miles that I had the opportunity to buy for $3,500 in 2012...

I'd be in either a 4runner or a GX470, but at the time I wanted little better fuel mileage and towing capacity the tacoma had over those. Wish they still made V8 4runners. That's what I'd have today if I could get a newish one.

 

There is a fully restored Thing in my neighborhood. One of my daughter's classmates drives it.

 

Looking at a 43% pay cut in January and a three hour commute each direction ... Tacoma at 18 MPG will get parked and looking for a used Prius or Corolla

 

I rented one in Mexico a number of years ago. It got nowhere fast and for some reason the little 3 speed shifter was always oozing grease, but it was a plucky little joy to drive. It did great on loose sand too. Whenever I got it buried the only recovery tool I needed was a good shoulder to shove it unstuck. I always thought it would make a decent little grocery getter.
