My comment wasn't geared towards the capability of OVTune. I was simply pointing out that even they address the throttle-to-ECU relationship, which is garbage due to the factory throttle mapping.

Cool. Then why are you reading a thread about autos?

Does anyone know when this is supposed to be released? I guess I could go read the main thread. :anonymous:

Probably because if Toyota issued a total re-map of everything they would have to go through new EPA testing?

That is merely one of the issues that's being addressed in the newest tune (1.05) from OVtune. He recently provided this list of status updates:

Sure, So here is what's done for 1.05:
    1. Transmission shift tables - Complete
    2. Transmission Torque tables - Developing (90%)
    3. Throttle control revision - Complete
4 Intake Valve Custom EROM Table - Complete (basically what I explained above)
    5. Custom ignition Control EROM Tables - Complete
    6. Ignition Tables Long Term testing - Developing (50%)
    7. ECT S Shift lock - Complete
    8. 4H throttle Limiter Delete - Developing
    9. 4L Throttle Limiter Delete - Developing
    10. Fuel Power Demand EQ fine tuning - Complete
    11. Revised Exhaust valve Timing - complete
    12. Revised Load axis index for several maps - Complete
    13. Transmission Locking off/half/full Tables - Developing (80%)
    14. Rev limiter Adjustment with Revised Shifting - Complete
    15. 93 Octane revised ignition - Complete
    16. 4D 16 way Temperature based tables - Developing (80%)
    17. Throttle angle controlled Fuel Operation switches (from stoic to power demand) - Complete
    18. Wheel speed fix - Developing
    19. Accelerator angle based Shift behavior tuning for all gears - Complete

    N0, I don't work for them.

I wondered that, but the TSB's are modifying the mapping now. I wonder if there is a set range of "adjustments" they can make before the have to submit for approval to the EPA?

Right now, I'm sitting on the sidelines to see if there are further TSB's. Living in Florida, I don't really have the challenges faced by the folks that contend with hills and mountains everyday. An occasional "episode" on an interstate overpass is bearable for now.

i am repeating myself here but i had the same exact experience as you state then i installed the ECT mod "on at startup". what you describe above no longer exists. i am sure you will say like many others that you tried it {ECT}and i did not help but for me i no longer cuss out loud at my truck.

So based on what I've read here lurking the OVtune thread it gets mixed feedback. It is not pleasing everyone. Some guys have frozen up their ECU and had to send it to OVtune to have it unbricked. For how much? $800? that's a pretty expensive gamble on a work in progress....

So pedal commander is the better bang for buck?

Any idea what could be the cause? I drive pretty smoothly, have stock suspension, and live at sea level driving nothing but flat florida roads. Most of the roads in town are long and quiet enough to cruise without stopping frequently.

No idea, perhaps your truck isn’t utilizing 5th/6th gear enough. Did you get the TSB done?

I used to live in West Palm beach, driving there my Cummins got around 19mpg, and only 16mpg here. So I’d assume I’d be getting at least 19-20mpg with my taco in FL.

Your first statement is correct, there is mixed feedback at present. Some of it is due to the fact that you'll never please everyone. I suspect a lot more of the negative reports are due to the ECU re-learning bad habits WRT the auto transmission. Even us M/T guys have some complaints.
Your second statement about guys bricking their ECU is actually on the edge of fear mongering. The guys that ended up "bricking" their ECU were attempting to update their trucks WITH TOYOTA CODE USING A TOYOTA APP - Techstream... and if you delve into that a bit deeper, you'll find that some of them took shortcuts or attempted that reflash with a cheap OBD dongle/cable. OVtune actually "unbricked" a couple of ECMs for free - and in at least one case the dude wasn't even a customer of his.
I've not seen one case of a guy actually bricking his ECM by attempting to flash it with OVtune's software... there have been a couple of guys who had problems, but Mat was able to help them out. He definitely wouldn't (and hasn't) charge someone if that ever did happen.
So, let's not start spreading a false narrative (let's be honest, it's not the first time you've posted stuff like this).

No, I don't work for OVtune but I am a fan of his work. I'm a big hater of bullshit though.
