Depends on if its a real VIN or place holder VIN. Do you have a build date? First comes VIN, then comes marriage next comes the baby carriage!!! LOL

Typically they issue the VIN and then a build date. approx 48 hrs after build date they will put it into shipping status. Depending on which factory and where you are located it usually takes 3-4 weeks. Get put on a train and sent to main depot(port) closest to your location. Once it gets there they add all the extras, Mats, tonneau cover, chrome exhaust tip...etc. Then on a truck to your dealership.

I always thought the dealership installed these add-ons. Interesting.

Oyster (grey) huh, good to know that's an option for leather color. First I'd heard of it.

Virgin poster here...please be gentle. Ordered mine--an OR/AC/AT/Inferno--only yesterday. AL dealer worked out an allocation swap with his NC counterpart--signed a quote sheet with a placeholder VIN. (I'm told) It'll be rerouted from JAX to dealership, bypassing NC and is expected to arrive at dealership on 10/19. Could be delayed up to 3 days with transport logistics, but ready for me no later than 10/24. Wish I could recall the logistical sequence better, but remember that I was promised a permanent VIN approx. 6 days prior to delivery to dealership. That doesn't exactly comport with others' messages. The rest is a blur except that I'm getting his dealership's first 2016. They've been more transparent than any of the other several I dealt with. Hope I'm not (overly) naïve.

Ready to run it up a mudhog's azz--not really, but I'll look the part...

Pretty dumb, but that truck looks great! By the grille and wheels, I believe that would be a Limited. Just so happens to be the model and color I ordered.

I have on order an AC OR with a build date of 9/29. Ordered in late August, and have been told only to expect delivery in 6-8 weeks. That was told to me in late August, and taken at face value would mean delivery sometime mid to late October. Seeing some people getting their build dates pushed forward, I'm not too confident I'll actually get it by then, so trying to be realistic. Tempted to contact the dealer to get better information, but doubt anything more specific would be forthcoming. Wondering if there is any advantage to learning the placeholder VIN. :deadhorse:

--Should have added that I'm in northern Virginia.

Ordered a DCSB TRD OR MGM on 8/5 with a build date of 9/1 and 2 weeks to dealer est. Build date was moved to 9/20 with delivery sometime early Oct. I also ordered a DCSB TRD OR Super White on 9/9 with a build date of 9/28, and that build date was also moved to 10/11 and no eta yet. When the first one gets delivered I will go test drive the truck. Going to tow my 17ft. Travel trailer to the dealer and hook it to the new truck and take it up the fwy a few exits and back. If it tows like crap, I will cancel both and get my deposit refunded and keep the 2013 DCSB Sport I have now. If its better, then I'll need to decide on the MGM or wait a few more weeks for the Super White.

I really thought I was sold on the MGM OR, but I recently saw the Super White OR and it just looks clean, and I really think that's the one Ill end up with. But for 40k after taxes, it better be what I want. Not going to settle for that kind of dough!

Can the build date be determined by the VIN? Reserved a limited today and have the VIN.

    Thanks

Ordered an Access Cab 4x4 TRD Sport, Inferno over black. No build date provided (yet) from the South Seattle dealership but they provided me a VIN and a soft "about a month" estimate for delivery. I was the 7th person to order a 2016 Tacoma from this particular dealership.

How did you guys get your build dates? My salesman was very helpful and knowledgable through out the whole process but now 3 weeks after I have put an order in, he still can't give me a build date. He just told me 6-8 weeks when I ordered it, putting me in late September, mid October. I am also on the East Coast so I know it will take slightly longer to get here. All the dealerships out here say they put them on trains and typically take 4 weeks to arrive. Since the first ones hit the ground on the west coast late this week, I figure minimum another 4 weeks for me. The wait is killing me.

You liked the black over fenders on the white? I have yet to see photos of this. Your predicament is the exact one I am in.

I ordered mine in July, received a phone call 2 weeks ago from the dealer. I was told that my build date is September 17 and it will take 4 to 5 weeks in order to get it to the dealership.

Where are you located. Haven't found many people on the east coast with info like this yet.

I am in Canada. They haven't even released prices in Canada yet. But my truck is scheduled to be built.
I think that if they are building Trucks for Canada that they should be building trucks for the Eastern States. He did mention that they had to wait till the end of August before they could get their orders in.
Maybe give your dealer a call.

Yeah, I was in contact with 4 or 5 dealers within a two hour radius of my location and only one of them could put in an order in late August put I got the exact price, VIN, everything. I wasn't sure if the VIN was just for a truck like mine or if it was the actual truck I would be getting. He made it sound like they don't "order" trucks, that you can only request the ones that are going to be built. I talked to him last week and still no build date.
