Hmmm, who ever said that the tech pointed out in the article was lithium ion. It is a lithium metal and is much more stable. The fact that it is solid state is the most important factor in longevity. Toyota is currently working on a version of a solid state battery to put in their vehicles and has started real world testing with them.

Tesla super charging stations have the end stall with the charger off to the side and back specifically for towing vehicles so you don't have to unhitch. One would presume as the demand for charging towing vehicles increases others would follow suit.

No, you're exactly wrong, the EV market is the one's that are "leveling" the playing field, because they can't compete with ICE right now. Battery technology is progressing fast, things will get there, but it's not now.

So lunatic in so many ways, 700 HP truck, so cool, from the factory, with a warranty. What kind of normal hi-way fuel millage can you get, launch better in 4 wheel drive, will 37's fit, heavens, theres enough power to turn them.
    Thanks man.

Well, they can't compete on some things, for sure. But 0-60 times, lower emissions (arguably, i admit) lower maintenance costs, cheaper to run when gas is $5 a gallon... there are some things in EV's favor.

That's just crazy. And a perfect example of this conversation... you always need to choose the right tool for the job.

Undoubtably, battery and charging technology is going to progress faster, as this is where the world is pointing for vehicular travel. As I leave this world in a few decades, I'm sure EV's will vastly out perform ICE in every way, it's inevitable.
So, way more then some things will better with electric in the future, it will be the way.

After seeing Top Gear get caught lying about Tesla, I'm very skeptical of electric reviews. It's still too early for me to believe any review good or bad when it comes to towing with an EV.

My wife has an EV. She spends less time than I do "filling it up" because it's always charged. We recently did a 2000 mile trip. Her car got longer range than my tacoma did but charging was usually about 30min. It wasn't terrible, just not ideal. I don't see the F150L has really much different. F150s are not for people who tow for a living. When Ford releases a F350 Lightning, we'll know that towing is real.

On the commercial side, EV trucks make a lot of sense to me for last mile delivery e.g. UPS, USPS, etc. This is especially true for semi trucks that spend lots of time in a loading dock. Engineering Explained has recent video where he uses math to show it's reasonable that the new Tesla truck can do 500 miles of range with 82,000 lbs. Pepsi is supposed to be the first customer to receive orders December 2022. Once they have them, we'll all get to see how good OR BAD they are.

It’s kinda true though. Half the people that come for regular service don’t even know the vehicle has a cabin air filter. Our grandparents had cars that came with owners manuals that told them how to adjust the valves. Now the manual tells you not to drink the liquid inside the battery. Not really sure that’s progress.

My hot take is this: There are people within every generation that are very hard working and self-reliant, and very much of the "fix it right and you won't have to replace it" mentality. And there are people within every generation that can't find their way out of a wet paper sack without three google searches, a youtube instructional video, a therapy animal, and a hired consultant.

I tend to view people who dismissively use the phrase "OK boomer" as being strongly associated with that second category. :crapstorm:

I wonder how LA's electric fire engine is working out? I can't find any updates as to if it's gone back to serving the community since last summer.

Heavy fleet EVs seem to be nothing more than a vehicle that's used for photo ops at this point.

Tell me about the things that are falling apart, that todays people are just standing around bitching about it, but doing nothing about anything. If a person today can't fix it on their phone, it will truly never get done.

I'll take the impossible optimist route and choose to believe that TW is an inaccurate sampling of the general population. The "My 2 month old truck has funny sound. Wat do?" posts are about as representative as the guys who hand forged their own solid axles and can swap in a new lower block in an afternoon. I think we get a sampling of the extremes while the average person is highly underrepresented.

Case in point: my siblings are the same age as I am, raised in the same house. During the last power outage one of them called in a panic because they were stuck in their own garage. It was a 15 minute conversation, full of many questions, regarding the mysterious red-handled string that hangs in the middle of the room. I wish I was kidding. I always found that fascinating. Same generation, same nurtured environment, opposite ends of the bell curve. One gets mad if they have to ask or pay for help on anything, the other believes that anything mechanical is best handled by a team of specialist wizards.
