    1) because theyre lighter than a piece of toilet paper
2)they were made from Cottonelle toilet paper...at least Charming Ultra or something softer
    3) they will magically combust in extreme heat, or chafe the shit out of you whenever the radio plays anther Kanye West's song

Seriously though, just tear out the paper from the plastic ring/mount and you can reuse it to mount the new speakers (pioneers in20161001_185919.jpg 20161001_182227.jpg 20161001_182502.jpg 20161001_182637.jpg 20161001_184901.jpg 20161001_174816.jpg 20161001_174819.jpg these pics)

Having gone 250k, Aug 2016 was the time to replace the original clutch & get the driver's seat rebuilt/stuffed. Front & back Weathertech liners. Tundra front disc brake swap. Full length Rocky Mountain Rack with 40" lightbar & alternating strobe rear dust lights. I used a warm weekend in March 2022 to finally install my brand new, from old stock, 2000 4Runner driver's seat. $800 directly from the factory in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
I have to admit I was a little surprised to discover that my stock speakers on my 2K4R didn't have any noticeable difference with a desktop radio speaker from the early 1930s.

What speaker brand and model would be a good replacement for going this method using the factory ring from where you ripped out the speaker paper?

I have stock speakers (as far as I know) in my 2008 regular cab and when I replaced the head unit, they actually sound pretty good. Good bass response and the highs are pretty clear.

trust me, you won't know how much you're missing until you've replaced them.
Besides, at $40, how can you go wrong? that's like a night at the movies

I'd say my JBL speakers aren't bad for a stock setup. Bass is decent, but could use more mid and high though.

I have a 2009 DCSB with the JBL system and as someone who sold and installed car stereos (albeit that was over 12 years ago) I can say the JBL is pretty good for factory.

But as stated above you cannot beat aftermarket. Although replacing factory speakers but using factory stereo is only part of the solution. Ideally you replace the stereo as well.

I'd get some mounts vs using the old speakers as mounts. More secure that way.

stock speakers are such a joke. Driver size is about the size of 5 quarters stacked on top of eachother.... TINY!

They have adapters for like 10 bucks a pair on Amazon that bolt right up for 6x9s in the front and 6.5in rounds in the rear.

Best upgrade i ever did was do pioneer 3 way 6x9s and 6.5s in the rear with pioneer tweeters in the top doors.
