I'm sure at some point they will be a way to reprogram them but it will impact mpg. Toyota programmed it that way to maximize fuel economy.

10 years in an 06 and loving my 16. Yes it's different, but I can adapt. Good luck finding any "Hot Rod" truck these days. The EPA won't allow it. There is not a truck on the market that will shift the same, have the same torque, mileage, or low end power compared to something even just 10 years ago. IMO. There are ways to drive the new Taco in the higher RPM band, where the torque and power is, but good luck with the mileage and the noise of the high revs.

    Just enjoy it.

The throttle sensitivity (lack there of) and transmission shifting up at too low of speeds are really the only things I don't like about the Tacoma. Otherwise it drives nice, is quiet, comfortable, has a good stereo (JBL in mine), has enough power when you dip into the throttle, brakes are good and I think it looks pretty damn good.

Hoping Toyota releases a flash update to fix the drivability issues. Since everything we're experiencing can be fixed with programming, there is always hope. They were obviously trying to eek every MPG out of this truck, but in doing so they ruin the driving experience in my opinion. Let's hope the fix it.

I have 6300 miles on my Taco. I originally posted driving my Taco with the 6 speed auto was like riding a drunk horse. It shifted up and down a hundred times in a 20 mile drive; it was horrible. I took it back to the dealership to get it fixed. They said that was NORMAL!

We got invited to a new truck owner dinner and 2 top techs were there and a TOYOTA ENGINEER. I asked the Engineer what was wrong with the tranny. He said it was normal to shift like that. I told him I have had a ton of vehicles and I have driven from Texas to Alaska dozens of times and NO vehicle has ever done that. He said you will get used to it, it is just different. I thought he was full of crow!

6300 miles later; it does not bother me as much. I am positive it has learned my driving patterns better and has cleaned up. I have learned the bottom end has low power, but when I need it I push down on the pedal and the V6 screams to life ... tons of power. So maybe he wasn't selling me a line.

My tranny shifting points got better over time. I love my Taco and I have become used to the shifting and don't notice it as much. I also used the S mode when I need a little more control.

That's what I like about this forum. People aren't afraid to set new standards for dumb comments on a near weekly frequency.

I'll disagree. In all honesty, you guys with big tires seem to be right in the ballpark with me. 15l/100 . I think that is 15 mpg or so. Not bad considering the differences.
