Well now you did it. This thread is going to escalate because a 3rd genner posted in the 1st gen section.

I've been using this stainless steel Firestik mount SS-274R for the last 6 years or so; has been great. Comes with the coax cable as well so you don't have to buy one separately, and costs $42. Or, just the bracket is $21. Mounts into the hood area using existing bolt holes.

The only "downside" is that it's in the way of taking photos sometimes, but that just means I have to step out of the truck. I do like that it's in my vision, so I can see/account for it on narrow, willow-y trails. I'd be a little worried about ripping a tailgate-mounted one off and not noticing it. But I suppose that has to do with the type of trail you find yourself on...

I’ll throw another opinion in here. I like the rago hood mounts for ditch lights, but I bought them on sale and wouldn’t pay how much they cost now.

I can’t weld but I made a tailgate mount out of 2 L brackets with a drill and a couple bolts. Cost me maybe $5 :D

I don’t weld or know anyone that welds. Nor do I know where to source or have steel cut/bent to size. I’ve been thinking about getting a CB and mount bracket. I found the OP’s post to be helpful, informative and harmless. Pretty simple, really.

You ever get a burger at a restaurant? You can make them cheaper at home. And don’t even get me started on the cheese. It’s like a $1 up-charge.

Rago might have interested me if their price was about half of what they are asking. You know, somewhere in line with every other fabricator that stamps out the same strips of metal. Even the cheapest item on their menu, a $30 relay holder, I picked up elsewhere for about half that.

I'm sorry if my opinion somehow kicked OP's dog.

Relax man. People are only giving their opinions and you're taking it as a personal attack on your family.

Hilarious. Don't buy one if you don't want to but it's a nice mount for the 1st gen. But whatever.

Exhale calm. People are only giving their input. No reason for elevated BP
