    Would have probably picked a Power Wagon until I saw the new Silverado ZR2 yesterday - front and rear diff locks like the PW but not quite as big......hmm

    Found a small dealer in Missouri that specializes in obs fords/dodges. Instead of a new truck, I’d much rather get a minty obs powerstroke. Glad I found this guy, because this truck pictured is exactly what I’d trade my taco towards.

    I’ve put a lot of miles on GM trucks and Fords. Love the ride on the GM 1/2 tons. However my last 1/2 ton had electric power steering. If that quits (and it did at 5K miles) you ain’t turning that wheel. Went out to leave for work and codes everywhere and no steering. Never trusted that truck after that. Just about to call the dealer to pick it up and went back out to try it one more time. Everything worked perfect ‍♂️.
    My current Duramax truck I’m constantly having to reboot the head unit due to issues with CarPlay. Electronics in GM trucks are weak. The Fords don’t ride as good and the Ecoboost is an awesome motor that makes great power and gets get decent mileage in a heavy truck. Buuttt when it grenades it’s expensive. Know of more than one 3.5 that has failed catastrophically. I think gas engine+turbos+loads+staying on boost all the time is no good.
    Turbo and diesel is a little different animal and they seem to hold up better long term. When I was spending my money on a personal ride I bought a Tacoma with a manual. If I was buying a full size gasser today it would be a Tundra. Keep in mind I’m not an engineer and not that smart. I’m just a knuckle dragging thieving contractor with an opinion. Somebody else probably has different experiences and opinions.

    dont buy a trail boss my coworker has one and he hates that transmission he has had a ton of problems with it. I just smile I have a 2015 tundra with the 5.7. And it now has 105k miles on it and it has never been to the shop except for service. It’s been a fantastic truck. I’m planning to run it for at least another 100k miles.

    Either the 2.7 if you aren't towing much or the 3.5 if you are. They're very reliable, the 10 speed is great despite some people hammering on it with the 5.0 and blaming the transmission instead of their bad driving, but the 6 speed was also great. The only things I've heard of the recent F150s that have actually been a problem is the backup camera sometimes acts up - and Ford has a recall on for that.

    Honestly right now - none of the full sizes are a bad choice, but if I was buying and wanted a do-it-all but not a towing giant I'd be in a 2.7 F150.

    Edit - the tundra is dated and the Ford is reliable (at the moment) so I'd choose the Ford. Gas mileage is decent too, bit compare on fuelly. If the tundra is at 17 on fuelly and the F150 is at 19 - then you can expect a 2 mpg better in the Ford. If your use is more highway you might expect a slightly bigger gap but the point is the numbers on fuelly might not be spot on for you, but will be an indicator of what the differences you'd see are.

    My 2001 tundra was never in a shop for work until i had the struts and rear shock replaced after suffering a stroke. Until then i was able to do any minor stuff like old changes, brakes, and exhaust. Even changed the steering rack when it rotted out. Had 292k miles on it when i sold it in 2020...still ran perfect. Just hope the taco can deliver the same, or better results.

    Absolutely. I daily drove a diesel for 4 years, primarily because I was full-timing in a camper and wanted an upgrade from my Chevy 2500 gasser. As long as I had something to pull, it made sense, and I liked the better mileage on the highway. Once I sold the camper, though, and had nothing to tow, my 9.5 mile commute to work looked like a quick way to kill my truck, as it was still stock with all the emissions equipment attached. Being close to the end of my warranty and living 70 miles from the closest place that'd work on the thing was the final nail in the coffin.

    Don't get me wrong, I loved the truck, but like you say, you gotta work 'em and not mind some possibly very expensive repairs.

    I did the same thing with two diesel trucks (pre-DPF) and pretty much destroyed them. Both my trucks cost thousands in repairs. One time, it was a 7500.00 check...and I did the work myself (head removal/injectors).

    The most ironic thing is that the awd ridgeline has a higher payload than the Tacoma. Hah!
