Went with a 2007 ram 2500 with the 5.9 when i sold my 2005 tacoma a few years ago. I average 16 mpg with the cummins. Same as my tacoma.

Wondering if you typically take the new RAM the same places you took the Tacoma? There are so many trails that seem to shrink due to lack of use, not hard wheeling trails but old logging roads etc that I like to explore. I found my reg cab F150 big coming from a reg cab Taco. But then loved if after exploring NWT and Yukon in it. Had Fox 2.0 suspension which made a massive difference over stock in ride quality. Do you find the size limits your uses at times?

F150 or Tundra. I used to love the idea of a diesel, but at this point I would only buy one if I needed it to tow etc. I've seen enough trouble out of the epa systems on diesels now to convince me that gas is the reliability choice.

Has anyone said the correct answer of 90s square body ford? Ya know before computers and kids requiring seatbelts. In a truck so loud that you had to yell...louder than in your 2nd gen.

The new truck is huge. I find it really hard to want to fit into the same places as the Tacoma did. But most of my traveling now is in the desert and I've been happy with it. Definitely not built for logging roads in Oregon that get overgrown - I'd take part of the trail with me lol. It works well for me and I decided to just get a mountain bike to explore tighter areas and enjoy my bigger truck. My end goal with the truck is to make it like this..bobbed and 6.5' bed. This would be perfect size for me.

Depends on your use case? Are you just wanting to drive around town and haul campers? Tundra might work for that. If you want to haul a bed camper, tundra is not great for that due to the abysmally low payload rating. I am stuck in this debate too, sold my Taco for way more money then it was worth a couple months ago but I look at newer truck prices and can't bring myself to drop $40-60k on a new truck. I'll buy 2 motorcycles a sporty mini cooper S turbo and a relatively older truck for hauling things around and still not have spent a third of the cost of a new truck these days. Even prior to the covid shortages it's still hard to justify, in my opinion. I make decent money too but there are SO many other things I'd rather drop $50k on.

I picked up the second motorcycle a month ago, and am picking the 2009 Mini Cooper S manual trans on Wednesday. Just need to find an older truck for 5-8k or so to make that budget.

Thanks for your reply. Figured it would seem huge in tighter spots. I am familiar with the truck in the photo from the Ultimate Adventure video series. Those AEV fender kits really open up some room for monster tires. Sweet rig!

    Working on it ...
I have driven a lot of trucks in my time. A few weeks ago brought my wife’s 2019 Camry and my 2019 Tacoma in for fuel pump recalls. They gave me a 2021 Tundra SR for the time they had our vehicles in the shop. It was a very very nice riding truck. Good looking too. It make me second-guess why I got the Tacoma over the tundra, then I remembered the tundra got about 12 miles per gallon. Other than the mileage factor it is a really nice truck.

If I had to stray outside of the Toyota lines, my next choice would be Ford. They make a fairly reliable and hard-working truck. As for the GM line, they seem to ride nice and do their jobs, towing and otherwise just fine. I just have to question their reliability and dependability. Our fleet trucks at work are Ford and Chevrolet. The Dodge truck line would be by far my last choice. I love the way they look, and I know there are people out there who have them and love them but anyone I’ve ever known who owned a Dodge truck has had reliability and maintenance issues.

Your choice, just my two cents worth.

If you actually find a Ram without that stupid eTorque bs that would be my first choice, but since that's a unicorn I'd have to "settle" for a Tundra and it's 5 mpg.

I mean it kind of is if you want a vehicle that could hit half a million miles without costing you thousands of dollars in repairs in the long run.

Meh, it’s been over a year now, pretty happy with it.
I went into the trade fully understanding the possible ramifications.
I love working on cars, it’s my hobby, not too worried about any challenges that are ahead.
The drivetrain trade up and room for activities in the back seat, are alone worth it.
