I got a credit card when I was 20 with pretty much the same. Granted it had a $500 limit but you gotta start somewhere!

You really think they check their crap out? I rented one last summer, did the paperwork and went out to hook it up, decided to check the reservoir and it was empty. Company I rented from was like, oh it was full when we checked it when came in. Went to another trailer on site, fluid was full but missing 1 safety chain.

Wouldn't matter what you tell them you're towing. If they entered the information of your "2004 tacoma" into the data base, it would not allow the rental be to done in the first place.

It's not about "if the tacoma can tow it". It's about the safety of everyone in his surrounding. Everyone here can agree that the tacoma brake itself is a POS and barely good enough to get by with factory tires to stop in time. Now add 6k pounds to that, you really think the tacoma have sufficient stopping power?

I just towed my buddies JKU (which overheated; lol, Jeep!) back from Bend OR to WA. We did exactly that. Put in my 07 Taco as tow vehicle and told them we’re towing a Miata.

Obviously, I’m not saying what you said didn’t happen, but we made damn sure the trailer brakes were working. And they were. Uhaul car hauler was in tip top shape.

I was operating under the same assumption. My understanding was the tow package for auto transmissions gave them a separate transmission cooler, anybody know if the tow package was offered for MTs, what did it add?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It all comes down to experience and just where this might be taking place .

To be fair my adventures were in very rural areas a 200 mile trip was a easy 8 hours .

Yes I do I have never been in a position that I needed to ever make a panic stop .

I don`t know why people say the Tacoma`s have poor brakes I never had a problem.

EDIT: Just realized OP truck is a 2004, so the following data doesn't necessarily apply. I'll just leave it for some fun trivia.

    From my 1999 owner’s manual:
    6200FA41-E26B-4419-99B4-793373B5A6D0.jpg

and curb weights from the 1999 Tacoma brochure:

I bet U-Haul needed a credit card to rent out the car hauler too. Anyway, that's beside the point. OP was within the truck's towing limits. Nothing to see here.

The second picture is precarious as fuck, my guy. And I read the entire thread so don't give me that "you didn't read" bs.

"Trust me i am not some moron who would put this load on the highway or anything dumb like that."

I don't know about that. The reality is that you admitted to having a rotted out frame, knowingly exceeded your towing capacity (otherwise you wouldn't have lied to the U-Haul rental staff) and you did take it on the highway because you later mention that you were going 40 in a 60.

Which is also a lie. Because 301 miles divided by 6 hours is an average of 50mph.

If you're going to endanger yourself, your passenger and others, at least don't brag about it on the internet. And get your lies straight, you're very bad at this.

Also in your manual will show you the weight with or without the tow package

Apparently reading the whole thread didn’t do much for you big guy. I know some people have trouble reading past 3rd grade levels so ill cut you a break. I never said my frame was rotted the frame on the 4runner was rotted thats why it was so cheap. I said that i was lucky that the previous owner took care of my truck by getting the frame undersprayed by krown every season. Glad you can do math big guy bravo! Sorry thatI can handle a load and i didnt endanger anyone and prove you right. Maybe next time ill drive faster for you so u can feel good trying roast me??? Anyways wishing you all the safety on the road!

Ah, no it won’t, because apparently there was no factory tow package in 1999, as one can reasonably conclude by reading the towing section of the manual, as well as the GVWR in the brochure, as posted above. Additionally, I noted it may be different from a 2004, which I admitted I didn’t initially realize was the subject vehicle, which one also can read above.

But hey kudos for joining those of us down here on that “3rd grade reading level.”

Used to tow a 10k lb boat with a jeep YJ all the time. Of course it was on a hitch mounted to the front bumper and only moving it around the backyard to get it to the street to hook it up to the F350, but it counts, right?!

I'm not doing anything, you're doing a fantastic job roasting yourself. Tell us more about how well you can handle a load.

    Ignored.
