Looks like an awesome trip, and it’s cool to see you out there with your kids! I’m sure they had a blast!

Also, that Waggy is bad ass...

LOL, that rig is still in there. We had a SNAFU. Here is my custom drive shaft to get it out. Unfortunately, it's at Buck Island Lake, driver sprained his knee and can't use the clutch. Going back in this weekend, I am going to have to take it through Big Sluice and Cadillac to get out Tahoma side, or gatekeeper and the slabs and 3 hour drive on the Loon side.

After I went through Big Sluice and Cadillac in mine, I think Loon is the way to get him out.

Damn, dude! That’s gonna be interesting, for sure. Good luck!

It’s kinda crazy, but I was thinking just the other day about how much it would suck ass if I got back into somewhere with my manual and then sprained an ankle or a knee and couldn’t work the clutch. Looks like it sucks quite a bit, but at least he was in a group that could lend a hand. Did he fuck up his driveshaft too? That’s one helluva bad day...

So, that was the beginning of the misadventures. All the guys I went in were on 33s except on on 35s in an otherwise stock JK 4door.

There was plenty of warning about how brutal it gets, but I don't think people get a real sense of how sideways shit can go until they are in it. In his case, he took a bad line, cased a large wide rock coming out of the damn through "the eggs"

We then sat for a moment. Since I had the most capable rig, I bugged out at warp speed to avoid solo on Cadillac in the dark. Problem is, at the roots I hammered out and bent the frame a touch (enough that the tight tolerances I had for the panhard became binding on the diff cover. So, I limped home, pieced together his driveshaft and welded it up with some HREW, we got a quad, and delivered the driveshaft. During his time in the dark, he apparently tweaked his knee trying to break camp and crawl into his Waggy to sleep. So, upon delivery, they loaded him on the quad and booked back to Loon.

We were way behind schedule due to a traffic jam in soup can and a late start after some of our group stayed up drinking the night before. Saw Tooth fucked up a bunch of the other rigs in our group on their way out. I had fun, but I guess there was drama and bullshit after I left... Glad I wasn't there for that.

All I had to say to all of them was, "Welcome to the Rubicon, where you find out you don't know as much as you thought you knew." :p

Teach yourself how to shift without the clutch and rev match.

That was the only thing I could come up with when I was daydreaming about it the other day.

I can rev match all day in 2H, but I should probably give it a try in 4L and see how tough it is. Is it easier or harder than in 2H?

Easier in low, as long as you dont force it into gear. Plus you can use the starter to get going. Your starter may hate you but you can get off the trail.

This is actually exactly how I learned to drive. The old F-250 I learned in had no clutch. Burned up years before and my dad saved it for me. I fucking hated trying to learn that shit, but it has come in handy a bunch. I wasn't allowed out of 4lo for the first month or so of not hitting anything on my grandma's ranch.

Now I have an automatic, because lazy.

Killer, glad it all worked out. Any issues with the rig other than frame and the tire?

First things first. I welded on some 1 inch clevis mounts. On the diagonal part next to the winch. Most people want "recovery points" but it made it easy to work on links using the hoist.

Adjusted the links. Pulled the front axle back .5" and set the upper link at one half turn out of driveshaft bind. Caster appears to be more than 0 now, so that's good.

The diff cover got beveled on top and there's a chunk out of the panhard from contact. 1/4" steel is fine with some burring.

Whatevs, half fixed. Have a length of Dom to start the exo. That will stiffen up the front and fix any issues from lack of strength in the front.

I jumped it fairly high, so I expected some damage.

So, I found out more about after I left. I'll list shit because it's so fucking stupid.

    After I left:
    - ZJ broke upper lower mount that I bandage welded months ago as a favor, so he could get to work. He never fixed it. Told everyone my weld broke.

    - ZJ owner had two kids with him. After he broke, he ratchet straps mount and drives about 200 meters into the middle of big sluice. He has guy in Rover take his kids to his mom. They offer to give everyone a ride out, but he's concerned about his shit box.

    - Next morning, Rover owner gets to the bottom of big sluice with JK owner. ZJ owner radios back for them to bring his kids back. Curses them for leaving, drama ensued.

    - Rover and JK tell him to come get kids. They bounced, made it out around 11 and met up with me. Get pissed that I left them to go fix driveshaft. Lol, fix it with "hopes and prayers?"

    - My buddy in Duramax went into loon lake that morning with friends from his Chevy forum group, I gave him heads up that there was broke shit everywhere.

    - Duramax heard over the radio Waggy guy is not feeling hot. Says, "I know him!" Goes to help, driveshaft delivery happens at same time. Duramax said to me, "He was acting like a little kid."

    - Field medic out there says Waggy is dehydrated. He still had 5 gallons of water.

    - Duramax heard about ZJ. ZJ tells him my shitty weld broke. He forgot Duramax was there for that fix. He says, "wasn't that temp?" No response from ZJ.

    - Duramax finds guy in his group to trail weld. Come to find out, weld didn't break, the unibody peeled off.

    - ZJ takes off, makes it out, had trailer I setup for him waiting. Gets free ride home.

    - Waggy is taken out via quad. He asked Duramax to drive it out. That request was declined.

    - Waggy texts me, asks for me to drive it out. I don't want to bang his shitbox through the Rubicon. I said, let's see what happens this week.

    - ZJ denies blaming me. Says those guys left him. Asks me to help him reweld his mount. I haven't replied.

FUCKING CLOWN SHOES IN A DUMPSTER FIRE!
