IFS to 1 ton Truggy

Played with the articulation a little bit this morning, took pictures of one side going up, but there doesn't seem to be any binding in the links. I'll get the pan hard in today or tomorrow then hook up the drag link and the tie rod with the offset heims.

Because of where I mounted my steering box the tolerances are really fucking tight in there. Thought about cutting the front of the frame off and redoing it, but we'll see how this goes for now.

 

So, I've been tossing ideas back and forth with my brain and here's what I've come up with for the dual triangulation crossmember design and calculation.

Trying to get 100% antisquat and -1 Roll Axis (understeer)...getting close. Anyone have any protips for me?

Lookin good! I know nothing about link geometry but very interested in what you do, 4 link rear is in my future.

Also, what is your plan for fenders etc.?

 

The plan is to main hoop the cab to the top then roll tubing off that for bedside framing. I'll then pin bedsides on the top like an RC car and use Zeus fittings and rubber bumps on the side to keep rattling minimal.

Front fenders are going to be similar with tubing, but I have the glass to work with on those. So I'll make em fit even if I have to reglass sections. Worst case scenario is I ditch all that, then sheet metal the inside and run it ugly.

 

Sent away my knuckle for flat top and steering arm.

Whelp, I didn't like how the front was. It didn't grow on me, so I started on that. Still need to plate.I have to redo steering, but now I can move it forward and give plenty of room between panhard and drag link.

 

Because I can't set down something in the middle of working on it.

 

Dig it, I do a lot of bending like that too.

I was gonna be done after earlier, but... Meh, fuck going to the store or spending 3 hours on double XP Call of Duty.

So I burnt in all the 4 link brackets. I'll start the tubing this week. But I feel like a huge hurdle is out of the way.

Flexes like a olympic gymnast.

Played with that, drilled pilot holes for the steering box. And sorted out bracket placements. Then planned the tubing.

Tip to anyone going down this route. Tack everything you're not abso-fuckin-lutely sure it goes where it goes.

 

My first attempt at making a rear hoop was... Rough.

 

As long as the roof doesnt hit your head as its upside down

 

So I fucked with the main hoop a touch. It's not perfect, but neither am I.

Not at all, everything is just tacked. Worst case scenario, I take parts of this to gusset other parts. I've gotten a better feel for how this bender works now too. Lol.

It's a little more fun now that I've sorted out different bend lengths.

 

The shape of these cabs makes it a royal PITA to get a good looking cage on there. Godspeed!
