Haha, I can relate to that, my rear bumper was the first thing I built, the welds to the frame are not pretty but still holding!

Okay, maybe I need to adjust my welder settings for overhead... Anyone have tips? It wants to drop out, should the power and wire speed go down and take it slower, or opposite? Had to grind and reweld, A LOT. :(

Also cross member in! But the second picture shows my struggle. It penetrates and is solid, but it looks like ass. I gotta go back and redo all this bit

I’m definitely no expert, but I’ve kept my settings the same for overhead as flat and have had decent results. Most of my issues from overhead are just from me moving the gun poorly and stick out getting too long.

I’d say do a couple “test runs” without power just to make sure you’re in a comfortable position and you can keep the gun positioned well and then go for it. If the puddle is still falling out maybe up travel speed or turn the heat down a touch?

Watch weld.com on youtube, they have a ton of good videos on this. I'm on flux core and 115v so your mileage may vary, but I had good luck running higher heat than horizontal and a faster wire speed. It seems counter intuitive but it melts in quicker and the puddle "sticks" better.

Sometimes youre just trying to put too much metal down too fast without giving it time to solidify i found overhead mig the hardest of all processes at school but my reccomendation is to take it slow

Unless you can move swiftly and be steady take it slow

For sure drop feed and heat readjust as necessary

I agree with the above, it looks like you are moving too fast/too much stick out, particularly at the right end of that bead, I assume you went left>right there.

Thanks y'all, I was getting frustrated, not to mention lit myself on fire. I'm too big to sit and hit that spot, but arms are too short to lay down comfortably without being at the end of my reach.

So instead I'll just bitch loudly and redo it.

So, got out the previous attempt as much as asi could get to. Then attempted again, still fucking gross, grinded, but I noticed it the welder didn't sound right. Pulled open the access door and pulled the trigger, it was whining.

I have been working with my daughter practicing on flat plate. Now, maybe I am going crazy, but "someone" cranked down the tension spring nut. I wasn't in the garage before starting the overhead welding. So not sure, but my speed was way off. I made some passes after adjusting with a little more success, but that mixed with me being new caused the shit show yesterday. Lesson learned, check my setup beforehand.

Kids are assholes, and I have three, so naturally, shit happens...a lot.

I usually always run my overhead on the same settings as my flat and vertical, with the exception of maybe turning down both the voltage and the wire speed the same amount a tad so I can move a little slower and have a tad more control over the puddle.

It's really hard to tell what you are doing wrong without hearing how it sounds while welding IMO. But from that first pic of the overhead attempt, it looks like your voltage is way too high, or your wire speed is way too low (judging by the amount of undercut and the spatter from where it wanted to "drop out").

As stated above again, get comfortable... that's probably the most important part of out-of-position weld.

Already relocated with T100. Since I have a 97, I just had to plug the original and move the location.

It was the wire speed due to one of the kids messing around in the garage. They tightened the spool spring nut and even though I had it set correctly, the wire was feeding very slow. So, you're spot on. :)

Got Ballistic Fab cover in for the D60. Then got it mocked up to decide best spot for link brackets.

With the end of the world coming, I figured I should hurry up and get it done.

Steering mostly complete, was banging against the diff cover, so I ordered the offset 7/8" heims. Once that is in I can sort out where I want axle at full bump, get there front links in and start working on the rear. Drilled out the knuckles and pitman to 3/4".

    Seems legit.

Also brought home upper links material. 1.75x.125 DOM. Used my makeshift rack to get it home. :)
