Fuck. So since moving houses, my commute has involved a lot more braking from higher speeds on suburban multilane boulevards. The braking is really proving to be lackluster even when the truck is empty (most of the time). Feels like I am going to wear out the current shit a lot faster, and it is just shitty performance by any standard. I though that just by switching to Centric pads and rotors, I would get a significant improvement like I did on my first gen, but is sounds like that was not the case for you on your second gen.

I really wanted to stay with 16s, but it sounds like that is a fantasy if I want significant improvement. Once I am fully loaded and towing in the Sierras again, sounds like it is the way to go. BUT I JUST SPENT A SHITLOAD on F5s and Coopers about 10k ago. Fuck.

Is this my excuse to get Ray 10s?

Yeah....I guess I could sell my supercharger to fund it...since I don't really want to be buying premium on this DD commute. Fuck. Maybe I should just go buy a used Camry for a commuter LOL. But that won't fix the brakes.

lol, I just sold my commuter (94 integra) because I kept using the truck as the DD (s/c also, getting premium gas every 4-5 days isn't fun at all). I still want to buy a commuter and now, I have no excuse not to upgrade the front brakes since I don't need to buy 17s

yup, 94 white integra ls coupe 5speed, 153k miles, 3rd owner, had almost all the maintenance records (probably missing a few) ... ran great, just had one minor electrical issue i noticed (wipers turned on intermittently if the headlights were on, and ebrake light turned on randomly). sold it to a buddy cheap a couple of weeks ago.

I just found out clearance the hard way. It's just a bit over 7', but after a simple mod will barely clear 7'

Here you can see a scratch where I hit a parking garage sign that measures 7'. The fan cover bulbs up and that's what takes away most of my clearance. I just ordered a flat cover so it should clear anything above 7'.

They haven't worked out the fabric portion of the camper last I heard. So they not for widespread sale yet unless you're into fabricating that part yourself.

That's exactly it. I have a meeting with the owner today to work out the logistics on a few things. I won't be taking orders I'm just facilitating the design and trying to help them with the operations. The company is new to this type of product and community the last thing I want is for them to get bombarded with calls and questions for a partially completed product and a) pull the plug and not build more or b) make more campers that aren't finished and upset customers that were expecting x but got y.

That one being built is for my buddy @NVLOCAL, who is in no rush and I'm ironing out a few things with his so that they are closer to production.

So hang tight guys! I'm working as fast as I can to make this a reality.

i've stumbled on this thread and peeped OverlaNERD's thread too. really lovin this design, all the aspects, and functionality. reading OverlaNERD's objective as a ski lot camper has me really intrigued (spent a lot of time in tahoe this winter, blew hella $$ on lodging, and we basically live next to the beach so when we go it's multiple days usually), was really thinking about a van down the road. would eventually like to get something like this, just wondering if the builder would do something for full size pickups? also can a rack be attached to the top (sorry if it was already mentioned)? sweet ride and thanks for your time.

Read through the whole thread, twice, and @Overlanerd flatbed build thread also. Super cool. I have a cabover shell from the same manufacture and have to say they make one hell of a shell. Mine has spent over 10 years hauling around dirt bikes and all sorts of camping gear down bumpy ass roads and besides being dirty and a little dinged up, still works amazingly well. I bought it used so I didn't get to choose all the options but the original owner went all out when he ordered it. It has the full height double ambulance doors on the back (no tailgate anymore) and flip-up doors on both sides. When I first got it, I contemplated cutting it up and turning it into a pop-top, but that would have been a big undertaking to retrofit the fixed roof into a pop-top. When camping we sleep on a 74"x54"x4" folding foam mattress on a flat platform at the same height as the bedsides. No pics of the inside on TW yet, but I follow you (@Iggy) on instagram and have some on there - I'll shoot you a message later today. We just got back from camping this weekend finally took some good pics with the bed all set-up so I'll have to post those up on here at some point also.

Did you do anything to the composite bed of your truck to support the weight and cantilever action of the shell? I just have mine bolted through the bed rails at three points along each side with backing plates underneath. The rear doors rest on my bumper which probably helps, but the majority of the weight rests on the front of the truck bed.

Also curious, from looking at the pictures, what kind of insulation is in the roof? I imagine the darker exterior color heats things up pretty quick in full sun. Mine has the fabric backed aluminum skin with no insulation and hasn't ever been uncomfortably warm inside, even at burning man last year. But it's white, and the roof rack and solar panels shade more than 50% of the roof.

Super cool build and excited to see it all coming together. Where in CA are you located? I'd love to see the rig in person and share some ideas on cabover shell campers.
