Hello everyone! So recently I drove my tacoma 98 2.4L from work to home. it started up fine but when i got home, it wouldnt turn off. so i opened up the ignition cylinder hoping cylinder went bad. but instead i found this part broken (see in pics) i have no idea where to find it. the part number on this is (7580 2). Has anyone ever replaced this part or knows where to find it? it would be big help!

Welp, I’ll tell you this, I couldn’t find a part number in any diagram online, or at any local auto parts stores.

Your best bet is to steal it from a local pick a part truck, I had to make @BartMaster1234 find me one from a 4Runner, but I guess a lot of Toyota’s share parts. I would take your pieces and compare to find the right one.

If you don’t have something else to drive you can’t just unbolt the key switch thing at the back of the bracket and use a flat head screw driver to start it.

I feel like my post is really jumbled sorry.

@JK01998 Thanks for the reply. no luck at the local pick and part most of them were missing the ignition assembly. i did manage to start the truck as you said but had to use the broken part to keep the steering wheel unlocked. I most likely will be buying the used whole ignition assembly and just take the part out of it since no one wants to sell just the parr by itself.

Right right, I guess I shoulda said something about the steering wheel lock sorry, I used another screw driver and just blocked it from locking.

Also should have said I didn’t get just the rod from Barto, he got the whole ignition bracket and switch. Not all that expensive though.

I don’t know how much @BartMaster1234 paid from the pick a part, but I can’t imagine it was more than the I think it was 15$ I paid him for shipping and all.

    Jus sayin...

I paid $14.99 at my local Pick-n-Pull. Several Toyota vehicles share the same ignition system, I don’t know what but I know for sure 3rd Gen T4R’s are identical.

You can't just pull the ignition cylinder out to swap the rod since you need a key. Since junkyards usually don't keep the keys, you have to drill out the lock cylinder to pull it out of the truck.

How did the yard get the ignition bracket off the steering thingy? I couldn’t figure mine out.

Your guess is as good as mine. Originally, I was going to get you an ignition out of a Tacoma but I didn't know how to remove it.

So I checked the 4Runner, and to my excitement, it was already loose and dangling by the ignition harness.

The yard doesn't remove parts, it's random people who do it.

since you brought that up. i’ll be taking my 12v cutter to the yard. since it seems hella hard to remove those 2 screws holding the assembly around the steering.

Be wary of what yard you bring your cutter to. Some pick-n-pulls inspect your bags at the entrance, and deny entry if you have a grinder or something that makes sparks.

seems like im heading on the same path. $60-80 is a bit too much for that part i think. i guess i’ll keep my search going and see if i can find a better deal. until then i’ll be driving it with screwdriver. any deal less than 40 works for me.
