So I’m changing my ignition cylinder and I remove it and the rod comes out attached to it. Every YouTube video I watched on the install their rod didn’t come out. I put it back in way I think it came out put the new ignition cylinder in and key Just free spins does nothing. Do y’all think it might have possibly broke off in their somehow or am I doing something wrong. And if it did break off in there how can I get it out and find a new rod ? Need help ASAP I’d appreciate it very much

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Pictures what your dealing with !

The lock cylinder should just pop out with the pin pressed in and the switch in accessory .

Is that how you removed the cylinder ?

So I lost my only key. Couldn’t find anyone to mak me a new one. Went to my parts store bought a new ignition switch. Drilled the old ignition screwdriver turned on accessory and popped the old one out. The old one came out with the “tumbler rod attached to it “. No one else’s in the videos came out attached to the back. So I put it back in way it looked like it came out and put new ignition it and they key just turns around inside the new switch. Does nothing. My only guessing is I broke the rod trying to break the old ignition.

Pray tell where do you live that there are no lock smiths it is a simple matter to make a Key

I would need to be up close and in person to tell just what you broke .

If you need to move or use the truck being careful remove the electrical part of the switch and use a flat screw driver to turn the switch.

This is my go to for lost keys

Where are you at if you were close I would help you out .

Best of Luck this might be an expensive lesson!!!

If you can source a new cylinder I'd do that. Expensive way is to have Toyota do it and they will VIN match the cylinder to the current locks so you wont need two keys. Next time you can just get the dealer VIN cut you a replacement key if you lose one or it wears out.

Yes I see that. The cylinder and drum looks like it will need to be replaced. Quickest but expensive way is to source Toyota parts. Maybe a locksmith can replace the drum too. Dunno.
