I’ve worn out 2 keys and one ignition cylinder in my 03. I only have 165k on the clock but I guess I lock and unlocked the doors so many times in addition to starts that the keys wore out. My passenger door lock also gave up the ghost so I can only open that one up from the inside. I am too cheap to let a stealership gouge me for a new $600 cylinder so I understand your pain although it was only a couple hundred to replace. There have to be some inconveniences with driving a 20 year old truck but in the grand scheme of things, this one isn’t a biggie to me.

I had a similar issue and ordering a VIN cut key from the dealer. It's pretty cheap, and worth a shot before replacing any lock cylinders. I also suspect the keys are made with softer metal so they are the wear item rather than the cylinders.

You'll never get that at a dealer, have to go to indie for that type of flexibility and they might even be too busy.

I used to send the housings to a locksmith shop nearby but they're backed up now. Everybody is understaffed. We are..

Not sure what dealers are like, but shops like mine are busy and quite often straight up slammed. Sometimes I have to recommend the whole thing just so I can be sure it'll go as fast as possible. Can't risk having to redo it. It's stressful..

I've did a few nissan ignition lock housings recently and they're all sealed up, can't even push the release and pull the cylinder out. They make you buy the whole thing

I am spoiled I am very good friends with a family of Lock Smiths.

I even learned how simple it is to make keys from blanks .

Then these experiences span 30 years.

I couldn't find the damn wafers anywhere so I bought cheap ebay locks so I could steal the wafers and rekey to match my ignition. I think I'm in it for like $60 for a new cylinder and door locks.

It was perfect for about 2 weeks, then it started doing it again. This time, I removed the ignition cylinder, disassembled it, and removed the 2 split wafers. They were numbers 4 and 7 going from the front to rear. Seems to have fixed the problem, but only time will tell. I'm not too worried about someone picking the ignition lock.

When you make a comment on someone else's thread insinuating that they're an idiot.... then you get sarcasm.

I didn't imply or insinuate anything. You inferred that I called him an idiot. One can infer whatever one wants.

If you don't like it, there's a little button that says "ignore". Feel free to use it.
