Maybe so, but those keys come from the factory, with the vehicle. I don't know how the dealer would get an exact replica.

yes, I should have said "order" a new key - "cut" is misleading.

They have key codes. Look up the key code and punch out the new key to the code. That’s what that little metal tag is on the key ring you get with your keys is.

    Karen,

What town do you live in? Somebody on here may be close enough to lend a hand. You can always meet them at a safe place.

I do remember a time when my key was so worn down that it was difficult to turn sometimes. Only in the door though. I just switched to my spare and tossed the other one. Then had a new spare made.

Edit: holy crap. I just found that old key. See how the one on top has very dull edges? If yours looks like that you probably need a new one.20190707_184702.jpg

You can get a key code for a car back in the 70’s. That’s why now you need the title or proof of ownership before they will cut them. People were stealing old cars without a immobilizer or unlocking people’s cars and stealing stuff

Sounds like a better option for her.

I did mine in my driveway, so that worked out for me.

Karen, do you by chance have a second key? Perhaps it is less worn. My wife's is pristine, so I always use it to cut a new one for myself. Pocket wear is the problem for men.
