Amazing. Really nice photos, and sounds like a great time out! My last few trips being to the desert, I can't wait for the mountains as the snow melts.

Went up the Beartooths on Sunday.

Saw a momma bear and 2 cubs just outside of town to start the weekend.

Then after seeing the horrific aftermath of a 3 car crash on the Beartooth Highway entrance. We went up the pass.

[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-6.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

Snow was still deep in places. Traffic was way too high to get to stop and snap photos of the higher 30' drifts the plows had cut through.

Just an old Canon 60D with the kit 18-135mm lens(seriously one of the best cheaper lenses you can get, very versatile and looks great) and a 10-18mm lens. I have a 50mm too but don't use it a lot.

Really want to upgrade to a Canon 6D and some L glass..but..im not made of money haha

Took Igor Camping this weekend. Nothing crazy, didn't even air down. But was great to get out, had the whole place to ourselves.

Got to camp a bit on the late side though still was light when we first got there. Devin prepped the Hobo meals and I stoked the fire up for coals to cook on.

[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-2.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

Then, we had a nice windy night. Not annoyying, but some strong gusts that woke us up. Occasinally the dogs making noise too as they were running free all night. But the morning was great, nothing like sleeping in in the shade with a nice cool breeze in the quiet mountains. But we got out of bed eventually.

[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-4.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr
[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-5.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

Then we decided to walk up the stream to see if we could cross it on foot to climb the rocky hill on the left.

[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-6.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr
[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-7.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

The water was high though and it became apparent that wasn't going to happen but we kept walking letting the dogs entertain us. Satchmo was very funny going after the fish constantly jumping full on into the creek.

Im sure one of the very powerful wind storms that are know to blow through the Big Horns laid down all these trees at once.

Saw plenty of big game too. Lots of deer.

[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-18.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

On the way in, had hit a big mud hole...almost didn't make it. Big Horn mud is good mud though, comes right off.

[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-19.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

We were gonna hike up a peak, but the dogs were half dead and Devin wasn't feeling 100% so we headed down. Devin spotted something in the trees though..

Final treat was just outside of town on the way home almost hit a bull Elk and his heard in almost the same spot we saw the 3 bears last week.

[IMG]Beartooth Pass 2018-31.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

was a nice quick over nighter overall.

    Back to work tomorrow.

I went for a hike today. My Camera decided that it doesn't like SD cards anymore...so that sucks. phone photos instead. Drove up a few roads that were cool.

    Thats the Beartooth Hwy

Then of course I had to fix something. Had no tools, no OSK. Nothing. Opened the hood as I had aired down as the first trail was much rockier than expected. Battery tie down had lost a bolt. Battery was in the alternator.

Found a ratchet strap and came up with this. Think its actually stronger than the normal tie down haha

    Stainless.

I was really wanting dull aluminum skids but good damn can't justify the price

I think stainless will serve your purposes better. Easier to repair too.

True. Though most the trips save maybe one with Igor I don't really need beefy skids. The weight savings was appealing. Full set of aluminum weighs less than the stock skids.

It doesn't have any gusseting or anything. It's just laser cut and bent. Pretty nicely done though. IDK if I'll bother doing anything to it as it'll compromise the stainless. Don't have a shop anyways even if I wanted too.

    haha awesome!

I have a lot more to post from places this summer. But never time..

I have a few now already. Bolted in on and 5 hours later had a dent.

Didn't fit well on my bumper though. I also didn't realize it doesn't cover the steering rack. So I'll probably try and sell it and get the Aluminum Bud builts like i originally wanted.

    No not really.

    Why you think that?

They a good skids. The belly skid doesn't ha e enough reinforcement for thise that actually utilize it and beat on it. That's it though

To be fair I haven't come across any belly skid strong enough to be up to the challenge from the jump. I do like that they have the rear crossmember though. But realistically you are throwing the entire weight of the vehicle on the damn thing sometimes.

Pics of that skid? Since it's stainless I know it won't rust, so wasn't sure if the scratches would be barely visible or not. Also doesn't the bud built skids mount off the steering rack mounts? I never liked that only because I would worry it's throwing impact onto some important bolts, even if they are huge.
