I have looked into Solar but frankly we (the US) are getting raked over the coals on it.

It would be $60,000 dollars to install solar on my house (no batteries) and I would still have an electric bill (electricity in is more expensive than electricity out, as it should be). That system would produce more in the summer than I use, and less in the winter, giving me around even over the course of a year but still paying some since I buy at a higher rate than I sell back.

What makes me mad is I priced the hardware to do it myself, it was $30k. You cannot tell me that installing solar, just the labor, is THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. I could get an entirely new roof, with all materials including new wood, installed for less than $30,000.

In the end I would have broken even by the end of the warranty period for the system, which I guess is something but hardly a win.

I will say, Tesla Solar (not the Tesla roof), was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. Unfortunately they don't serve my area.

Typically those who's decisions are determined by their politics see everyone else as doing things the same way.

It makes more sense in some places. MN ... not really. AZ ... you can be selling electricity back to the power company almost every day.

But you are correct ... do the math first.

Tried to blow through snow after seeing his truck (via marketing) blow through snow. It didn't work so we was trying to recover it, like all of us do. Then it went into some absurd safety mode that apparently Rivian thinks should be an app fix. I blame the guy 10% and Rivian 90%. He's right to be upset about the tow bill because his truck was bricked while doing normal recovery stuff any of us would do. Don't be mad at the guy for buying an EV, they will be HELLA capable offroad when someone does them right.

I know Forbes is a left wing hippy rag but you may enjoy this article RogerRabbit

"But the fundamental economic pressures pushing coal out of the U.S. electricity mix remain unchanged – 80% of existing coal plants across the country cost more to continue running than replacing them with new local wind or solar generation."

Fine and dandy ... cost. Everything with people on staff costs, foe salary and benefits.

But some places do not have open territory for acres of windmills like OK. Some places do not have large hydroelectric dams for power generation. Some places do not have open space for solar farms or enough sun.

Fusion power would be wonderful, but until someone perfects those generators we must do what local conditions allow. We cannot abandon one technology for moral reasons without a replacement ready to step in.

Many who bitch about coal (gas vehicle emissions, private jet emissions) still use coal/oil power for their EV or personal travel and let others work on the fusion generator technology.

You know it’s easy/fun to bash the EPA and the government. Anybody remember what happened in the late 50’s on that river in Ohio. We managed to catch a river on fire, and when the fire department used water from the river to extinguish it, it made it worse. Anyone need a glass of water, hang on I’ll get you one.

not arguing your numbers because whatever you got quoted is what it is but the house i am building for clients now will be the 3rd in a row we've installed a solar array on and the pricing has come down for each , 9KW for $28K , 9KW for $25K and this one is 11KW for $28K and thats in Canadian dollars

Transportation and electricity production account for 52% of the US GHG emissions , if only there was a way to reduce both at the same time

Perhaps you should look into logic fallacies so you can see how others are using those numbers to mislead you.

That and the "its all about saving the planet" line that is used constantly as a strawman. Its not about "saving the planet", its about technological advancement being used to disrupt entrenched markets that leverage MASSIVE control, its about pushing towards a distributed grid that is less dependent upon scarce resources and allow us to move away from a narrow range of options, its about saving those resources we have ourselves since their value is FAR greater than just burning them, its about leading the world in technology so that technology trickles down to others over decades and centuries, its about driving new global supply chains to disrupt the controlling markets of ICE cars, its about leveraging technologies that have better opportunities for growth and advancement, oh and yes, it is about LESS emissions because that can happen too and less in cars helps offset the MORE emissions elsewhere that comes from feeding the global economies.

Those that see this simply as a "save the planet" argument, on either side, are the ones convinced by the media what to think.

This was for 24KW or so. Looks like at the current exchange rate yours are about 15%-20% better than what I was getting quoted.
