No prob, I look forward to seeing how you remedy the problem. Give us an update with pics in a few days! I think you may be the first to post on the forum about an issue with the muffler freezing solid.:notsure:

For those who want to know how it could happen. Truck idles for extended time in cold weather on a relatively flat surface, causing excessive buildup of water in the muffler. Said water freezes and causes muffler internals to break and move then block flow of exhaust once truck is restarted.
OP, straight pipe or cherry bomb shouldn't cause more than an annoyance since the change is going to be made after the cats. I'd say look into the AT2525xl (I like mine) instead of straight pipe or cherry bomb.

Still sounds like BS to me. I have seen a lot in my near 61 years and I have never seen this. Or any thing even close.

It is weird, but I have seen it. It basically has the same effect as a collapsed/plugged cat in that it chokes the exhaust flow.

Either his exhaust on the truck was such a pile or it was the best perfectly sealed exhaust/ level pipes ever lol. Either way time to replace at least the muffler.

I use to live in an extremely cold place with snow piles in June. Those temps would get -20,-30, and even up to -50 a few times. OP needs to investigate and get us more specifics. I'm curious, we only dealt with frozen fuel lines and killed batteries. Never frozen muffler issue though.

I wonder where the OP lives. I know up in Alaska or Northern Canada it isn't uncommon to keep vehicles idling, but anywhere else it seems unnecessary? These aren't diesels...
