One way to look at it is .19 cents a piece qty 10 plus $3.40 first class mail is way cheaper than $21 from Toyota. :)

For those that bought the pins from digikey/mouser/wherever, it's been so long since I went over my original post but make sure you take some pliars and bend off that little sail piece that sticks up off the pin. It will be obvious but just fyi

FYI for those concerned about the Mouser shipping delay, I ordered a couple weeks ago and received an anticipated ship date of 4/25 but got an update yesterday that my pins are shipping Monday.

I was going to order through Mouser until I saw the shipping delay. Went through Digikey instead and got them 3 days later.

Finally got mine installed today. Hooked everything up, tested it out and everything worked as I expected. The final test, starting the truck. Well, it didn't start, just kept cranking. I'm familiar with that sound. So I pulled out the new ring and put back my original ring and the truck started. So I then put the lighted ring back in and pulled the fuse to the ring see what would happen. The truck started. I then put the fuse back in and the truck started. I have started the truck about 8 more times and it has started ever time. I am a little concerned wondering if I have caused a immoblizer problem with the new lighted ring. I hope the truck not starting was just a fluke. The lighted ring is working as it is supposed to, coming on when opening the door, going out when I start the truck, going off when the cabin lights go out. For the hell of it I called Toyota service and asked if they had any ideas. Get this, they said I would have to have my keys recoded. I knew that was wrong. I know keys need reprogrammed when you replace the Transponder ECU, not for the Transponder Amplifier. I know this because I had to have the Transponder ECU replaced about 7 months ago. Truck would not start, just kept cranking. I'm curious if anyone else who has done this mod ran into a similar problem.

I've been running the lit ring since last October with no issues. And before that ran the 4Runner ring for a few months no issues. I am about 100% sure the first crank after amplifier replacement the truck shut off as you described, but every crank after is perfectly normal no issues. And that has been true for every time I swapped in the new lit amplifier for each install I've done.

The amplifier is literally a generic part across models and is in no way by my understanding keyed to the ECU/keys.

Thanks Josh, glad to hear it. That is what my truck did the first time, just kept cranking, would not start. I agree the amplifier is a generic part. I would think Toyota would put a disclaimer on the part if the replacement would effect the ECU/keys. I feel better after reading your post.

No problem, I realized I left that little tidbit out of my OP. And I directly recall it 100% was the case because I went to crank after install and was like oh shit what did I do wrong, then second crank all was well.

Yea, I guess I should have tried to crank it a few times. I kept trying to start it, but never turned the key back to off. If I would have done that then it would have saved me some work. I panicked. When the truck kept cranking it brought back nightmares of past problems.

Installed mine this week. Love it. Must say it is on the top of my list of mods that I have done.

    What was the difficulty level?

I briefly looked at the OP and I don't know if this would be something I could handle.

My OP is lengthy because I'm not good at summarizing. It's as simple as crimp pins to wires, stick them into existing harness, plug new ring in to harness, tap power wire to fuse box and ground to dome ground wire, done. If you don't have a crimper you could try and do it with pliers or source OEM precrimped pins from Toyota that are pricey.
