I'm assuming you are looking at the ones listed on eBay right now? From the pics of that part it looks like it should work, and a couple part sites said it is compatible with the same model years as the 06021 part#.

When I enter 89783-06020 into toyotaonlineparts.com it automatically comes up with the 06021:

Thank you both. I came to the same conclusion although I was hoping to hear from someone who had actually done it.

All done and very happy. Thanks to those who figured this all out so I could just install it. I bought a camry ignition assembly for a best offer of $30 (seller was asking $42). I took off the ring, and the ring's harness plug. The plug had about 4" of wire left to it, and I was able to open the window and then carefully x-acto knife out the wired oem pins. No crimping tiny pins onto tiny wires for me. A little soldering some more wire to them, some shrink wrap and I was able to lock them right in to the trucks' plug after popping the little window open.

    Couple tips for those choosing this route;
-you can only use the center pins. there are 3 of these, so one is a practice bonus. The ones on either end are larger, and will not fit back into slot 2&6 in your trucks' harness.
-the pin locks itself into the plug, there is a tab on one side. when you open the window, you will be looking at the crimped side of the 4 sided pin. this is the side with the locking tab. in my pic, the upper pin is showing the crimped side you will see after opening the window, and the pin must be inserted the same way. the lower pic from the side shows the tab.

So I'm into this mod for $30, and might just get all that back reselling what's left of the camry ignition assembly.

    And the results;
Proper operation check before reassembly - looks like we're gtg.

Nice work! Did the immobilizer have a part number on it?

89783-06020. There's a post a page back, post #294, with a list of toyota vehicles and year spread of each that use this part. I bought a whole used ignition assembly. There's a bunch, you should have no problem coming up with one on ebay for way less than $115 for a new amplifier by itself from the dealer. I found used amplifiers by themselves for as cheap as $11, but the right one wasn't there and I wanted to get this done. Aside from money, the big bonus with going this way is extracting the wired pins (caveat - it's up to you to ask the seller or look closely at the pics of what you're buying and confirming that the amplifier plug is still there). Not having to source pins, buy a crimping tool, and mess with the tiny pins is a win.

Agreed. The part number 89783-06020 has been replaced by 89783-06021 so I just wanted someone to verify that 89783-06020 would actually work, which you have just done. Thank you.

I have a friend who took apart a Land Rover Defender II for the V8 to stuff it into a 1974 TVR 2500M. He grabbed all the wiring in case there was something he might need. When he finished getting everything sorted he gave the extra wires and connectors to me. I had a bunch of fun de-pinning many, many connectors and now have two five gallon buckets of wires with various wired pins attached. I am curious if some of what I have will fit the Toyota application.

I have looked at eBay and seen the listings with the connector still attached and had the same idea you did. I will search to see what I can find. Thanks.

Did mine today. Have some pins left over if anyone needs them.

edit: All extra pins are gone.

They cost me .10 cents a piece, but paying it forward and will give them away for just the postage.

I wonder, if using the 4runner amber ring, if you could separate the lock-acc-on-start trim piece and use the one off the Tacoma so the words are right? No big deal, first need to find 89783-35042 at decent price first. Pigtails, no problem.

Bigger thing for me....SR5 without keyless entry...........Am I going to have to get upper column cover for keyless entry where there is room for the light ring or different smaller diameter ignition tumbler where there is room for the light ring? Pic of my ignition key area..................

or maybe just the light ring will fit around my tumbler and not have the black plastic ring with lock-acc-on-start on it. Not even sure it'd work like that. Damn......

The wording on the piece itself can't be reoriented as it's molded to the plastic that then clips in to the rest of the piece, that also then clips to the ignition as a whole. So unless you chop off that circular piece of plastic and then turn and glue in place, which could possibly be done. I haven't taken one of these apart in a while but there is a copper coil just under the plastic with the wording on it.

Hmmm now that looks like a problem. Your base ignition has the "lock-acc etc" preengraved so what that tells me is the steering column plastic isn't the issue, the larger diameter of your tumbler versus what's on keyless models is the issue. So yeah at the route of your issue is a tumbler that's larger diameter, so the lit rings for this mod would be incompatible unless you get a new one, which I assume entails getting everything else rekeyed? Which sounds like a nightmare compared to what the mod adds.

Yep, unless..................The combined diameter of the smaller tumbler with the black plastic ring is same diameter as my tumbler.........which would leave me with, will the light ring fit the same over my tumbler as it does with y'all's tumbler + black plastic ring? Trimming the steering col cover to make room for the light ring would be the easy part if it would...........Probably just have to pass on all this unless I want to play long ball and get different tumbler and rekey stuff......if that would even just plug into my harness and work right. Lotta iffiness involved.

Went the used route as suggested in this post. Now I need better weather to install this and my 4Runner mirrors!

I'm so ready to do this!

Can I ask how you did your 4wd selector illumination becaus it looks very close to stock brightness?

    Very impressed,

Was it a TRD Pro thing?

    Think I found it's a Tundra switch?

Any modding or grinding needed to make it fit?

What year? And if a certain year fits great is it just a bulb swap for the illumination color?

    Yours looks really good man!

    Sorry for the late reply.

Not a TRD Pro option. Had just the regular un-illuminated 4X4 switch when I got the truck.

If I could remember it's from a 2014 Tundra. Unfortunately you're going to have to enlarge the hole where the stock 4X4 switch sits in, and epoxy the Tundra 4X4 switch in place. So there's no going back to stock if you do this mod. But there is another option, you can always do the illuminated Hilux 4X4 switch mod.

It came in amber, but I ended up changing the led's to pure/cool white.

    Thanks,

So any tips or such on where you got the new color LEDs?

I do have a nice soldering iron...

I got this led's. This led's are very small, but if you're good at soldering then you won't have no problem swapping it.
    http://lighthouseleds.com/1206-smd-led-white-ultra-bright-355-mcd.html

Let me know if you want the part number for that Tundra 4X4 switch.
