You might be able to fit the bike in diagonal and close the tailgate; it worked for me though my motorcycle is slightly shorter than yours.

FYI - That dealership lied to you. You pay sales tax to the state you reside in when you apply for the title. In most cases the dealership handles the title and registration for you, that's why you pay them the sales tax. Where you purchase the vehicle is irrelevant. They just wanted to charge you for shipping.

The suspension options seem to be endless. I don't want to lift it. Just want to be comfortable, even height and ok with the GS in the bed. That seems to open up about a dozen different suspension options.

Also just discovered that the central locks don't activate the tailgate, which is absurd. So I guess I gotta buy that pop-n-lock thing or the OEM.

I guess that I've probably stumbled into one of the largest aftermarkets in all things automotive with the Tacoma.

@camaro322hp statement is correct for all CA dealerships. State law regulates the tax portion, and CA is greedy. They will make you pay CA state taxes even if registering in another state, the ONLY way to bypass that requirement is flat shipping the vehicle to another dealer in another state. If you want to drive the truck from the dealer in CA, you will always pay CA sales tax.

OK, thanks. I probably would have opted for a spring/strut in the front, but since this is how it came to me, I guess I'll leave well enough alone on the front. Need to find the right solution to raise the rear about an inch, I think. Also shore it up for heavy loads. I think it may have hit the bump stops a couple of times on the way home from the dealer with the big GS in the back.

Couldn't leave well enough along. Upgraded to the Bilsteins and AAL.

Kinda funny that the steering wheel is clocked off again but to the opposite side this time. The installer said that it's a common problem with Tacomas but if I bring it back, they'll get it sorted out.

Haven't put a bike in the bed yet to see if it'll sag much. And I didn't notice any change in the ride quality. But I think it looks better.

I concur. I have a Super Tenere and would never even consider trying to load into my truckbed. It’s just too massive. I’ll carry my dirtbike or one of my other motos though- Kawi GPz550 & Kawi W650. Hell, in terms of size, my mountain bike is bigger than my 550 & 650.

I rode for 50 yrs, street and off road on big bikes, BMW's and KTM's and taught the sport for the CHP sponsored program. I rarely carried my bikes in a vehicle, I usually rode them to the remote off road locations all over the west.

The rare times I carried them in a truck it was always with a bid of trepidation getting those big bikes up into the short bed and secured single handedly. A good solid ramp for the bike that was wide enough so I could walk next to the bike made things much easier.

Bikes are so much fun off road, I sure miss mine. I'm to old to fall anymore, yup, falling is part of the sport off road, or was for me. A replacement hip and two new discs in my neck (not related to motorcycling) has found me transitioning to 4 wheeled vehicles off road.

    minor tweaks
I've hauled allot of bikes in the back of pickups over the years, a decent amount of large bikes (full size truck for most of those) down to lots of dirt bikes. IMO the main issue with something like a GSA is getting it into and out of the truck safely for the rider, bike and truck. If I was hauling something big I'd usually look for a permanent loading ramp behind a business or a nice abrupt little hill somewhere. I've seen some big bike loading efforts go south in a heartbeat also guys get hurt, not something to take lightly. A wide ramp really helps but then you got to haul a fairly big hunk of metal around.

    Sweet!

I’ve got a 2009 GSA and some Big Boy 2 ramps that I used to haul around with my F150, no problem.

Never tried with the Tacoma, but your pic has inspired me.
