x2 on this. If you aren't comfortable doing it yourself, I would take the lights off and stop[ by a body shop. Ask them how much to fill the holes and paint. Can't be that much.

Or at least have them fill the holes and you can use some touch up paint if they aren't huge holes. I would attempt this before buying a new tailgate or bumper.

I checked all those links. Thank you for doing all the research but those are different lights. For like blinkers and stuff. However, if the lights I have came like that, that would be absolutely perfect.

I was going to but the tool box wont always be on because the best top I'm getting soon.

To clear any possible confusion, the lights in the grille on this vehicle are the same ones on my tailgate. Mine are only amber.

This is my personal vehicle, not issued. I use my tacoma as my person vehicle and for a 2nd job.

I'm interested in taking it to a shop to see if they can some how recess it, but since I was already thinking about painting that bottom section with bedliner or plasti-dip, I might just put screws in all the holes and paint over it to half ass it. I don't want it to be a $500 screw up.

I agree withe the lowering of the bumper. You should be able to gain almost an inch just by loosening the frame brackets.I know i did this on my last truck.

you can probably get some plastic push pins to fit the holes and plasti-dip the lower strip of bumper, or maybe even color match them white and they will be barely noticeable

I agree with this. Even if there is not enough slack, you could remove the bumper and elongate the holes upward a half inch, then bolt it back on. Likely as not you would not be able to tell it had been lowered.

if he doesnt fill the holes they will probably end up rusting. Best keep em in there and lower the bumpers

You think your problem is bad, tonight I was trying to replicate a tire pressure sensor pressure canister I saw on a forum. The idea is you throw your tire pressure sensors in a pipe and cap both ends, drill a hole insert a valve stem, and pressurize. All this in an effort to turn my annoying light off on my dash, long story short the glue didn't hold, it decided to let go while I was taking my canister through my living room. The guy at the hardware store sold me glue and primer, and the glue wasn't supposed to be used with primer, stupid me for not reading the labels. The end that blew off messed up a pretty expensive coffee table.

Your problem can be fixed, I have been reading the ideas people have been throwing out. I know the back bumper can be lowered a bit, when I was installing my hitch I basically had to take my back bumper off, it had a lot of movement. At this point I would work around the lights that you have installed. Someone also suggested taking the plastic pad off of your bumper to gain some clearance then bed lining the top of the bumper, have you tried this?

how about you shorten the cable an inch or so.

your tail gate wont sit quite as flush anymore but you'll be able to put it down and the cable will hold the tailgate just before it hits your bumper.

but with whatever you cut cable with and go find a cable coupling at a hardware store? or if the coupling wont fit find the hardware to re-make the end.

OR you can make get little metal hobby boxes and cut nice holes into your tailgate and rivet the little boxes to the inside of your tailgate to recess the lights. and maybe plexi-glass over it? but still behind the metal of your tail gate to keep it flush
