I'm buying a new taco; stuck in the mud between access cab and double cab

I would have preferred an access cab, but I'm married with 2 kids so the double cab made more sense. I didn't feel I could safely install a rear facing seat in the back of the access cab, either for the baby or for the person sitting in the passenger side. I also would have preferred a long bed with the double cab, but the deal I got on my SR made the short bed worth it.

Your choices are limited in So Cal? Bullshit. There has to be 50x the number of dealers within a 2 hours drive than I have available to me in Alaska. Worst case is you have to Fly and drive. Find the truck you want, make the deal, fly there and drive it back. I'd be looking for a DCLB personally. Most room to haul inside and out.

Yes, but in an AC you get the longer bed without increasing the overall length of the wheel base. With the DCLB your wheel base is one foot longer. Longer wheel base has a negative effect on off road ability and manuverabilty.

Random slightly-off-topic thought: no matter which configuration you decide on, if you have a big pile of cash saved up and if a stock truck doesn't fill all of your needs...why don't you finance part of the truck and buy the mods you need now instead of waiting?

Although I don't agree about going into debt to finance mods, I do agree why not take advantage of historically low interest rates? You could invest your cash in very conservative funds and gain 7-10% while only paying 1-3% financing fees. It's basically free money. It does take some self-control not to spend the money, though.

Yeah, if you can finance for under 3% they're basically paying you to finance it, figuring for inflation.

Trust me it's better to get the DC now, it hurt trading in my AC for the DC cause the kids got bigger.

if you don’t have kids, don’t plan on having kids, and need a 6ft bed but not a trail limo. The access cab would be great for you. Honestly the only 3 questions that matter when deciding between the two. They perform equally in every way it’s all just what your using it for personally. 26EC1653-1E8E-43DC-B2F2-D8E90A928B4B.jpgBut I don’t care what anyone says, Access cabs look ten times meaner than DC’s! :D:bananadead:

Factory order exactly what you want and don’t settle for what the dealership’s think you want. Thats what I did I won’t have any regrets. My wife insisted on dbcb since we will occasionally have other folks with us, so that was her requirement ( no problem with me ).

Doublecab holds resale better/higher than access cab something to think about too. Have had em all, AC, DCSB, DCLB.

All of the Tacomas will be very capable off road and in snow.

The only thing i would say if you are trying to do extreme offroad is not to get a long bed double cab as it is longer than the dcsb/access but even that is not really a huge advantage. I have taken my DCLB where Rubicons can go for the most part (also a 3" lift) but before I put my limited slip in it wasn't as good. I think the locking differential is only available on short bed and I would try to get that if you're not trying to do a lot of modification. It's probably also cheaper than a new third member and it goes on finance.

As for winter, tires are going to make a way bigger difference than access vs double cab. Get a second set of cheap wheels and get some really good snow tires if you are worried. I have a dedicated set but mostly as a convenience/luxury.

I’ve got the AC and a DCSB. They handle the same, drive the same and smell the same. If you want the double cab do like others suggested and get a DCLB and put a mild lift on it. With skids those roads won’t be an issue. I wheel with a few guys in DCLBs and I’ve gotten them through some crappy areas

I have owned both acces and double cab. You want a double cab. You want to do truck stuff. You’ll want to take passengers. You’ll want to put junk and crap in the back. You may even get lucky and bang your old lady in the back. Also get the 6 foot bed. Do some banging back there too.

2015 ac owner here. I got a set of four oem rims off someone else's truck for $200, with Nokian hakka 8''s (and now a set of H9's) the ac is unstoppable in snow and on ice.

I do have a Co worker with a 2012 dcsb on blizzaks instead of studs. He can go almost, but not quite, everywhere I can go.

Carrying capacity on mine is only 1100# ( yes I put it on a scale with a full tank of gas), about a face cord of green wood. I burn eight cords a year up here.

Tow capacity on mine is 6000# gross. When I need two cords of firewood I call a guy with a diesel dually, I would have to sell my boat to make room for a wood hauling trailer.

I was going to order an access cab from the factory but got the double cab. I'm glad I made this choice as it's already snug inside the double cab as it is
