I'm buying a new taco; stuck in the mud between access cab and double cab

Congrats, I think you made the right choice. If you have no direct need for the rear seat space, just get an AC. I would have gone AC but it wasn't an option as I have an infant and can barely fit her car seat rear-facing in the double cab as it is.

The funky configuration choices cornered me into the DCSB. I really wanted an MT and it was only available in DCSB with the OR trim. I wanted the 6ft bed but it came with the drawbacks of looking like a land yacht and no MT. In the end, it was all a win-win now that my other car was totaled and I replaced it with a 1st gen complete with 6ft bed.

    "I really wanted an MT"

    what is an MT?

Yes if you have a child and need to transport them in the truck you need the double. For me this was the right choice because it's a work truck and to be honest i really don't want my woman driving it that much.

MT is just short for manual transmission

The Access Cab has seat anchor: for child seats. I would install the seat on the passenger side jump seat and have the front seat slid forward a touch.

You can also get the Sport and Pro Manual in DCSB, I wanted an OR Manual so DCSB was the only option.

My friend and I bought new Tacomas the same day, he got the Sport access cab, i got the off road double cab. I like the looks of the access cab better, other than that, the double cab wins. Way more convenient, more room, better resale, pwr rear window, etc. The thing that he notice right away after driving mine, was the better visibility looking over your left shoulder, the DC viewing is way better than the AC. But his truck looks better...

A factory order for one of those, not many TRD access cabs in California they are all up North that's why I had to go through Bakersfield to get one. The only downside was the running boards and mud guards. I will be taking them off the truck pronto. The mud guards will be get ripped off on a trail and the boards will get crunched. I could have chosen an AC with the heated seats dual climate control but i don't need or want more electronic stuff and a passenger controlling anything. Heated seats in a truck? I lived up in Maine for a winter never needed them there maybe if you lived in Canada I could understand it. Monday is insurance day I didn't like the quote given to me by my Insurance agency. I need to get that down a little I have a clean driver record and no prior OUI's so $125-150 monthly is the target.

strange I sort of thought the double cab looked better you definitely get more bang for your buck there, but that extra foot on the bed is critical for me. The back seats in the double even though small are kind of nice i like the way they looked cute I guess. My woman would have thought the same thing and we need to keep her out of the truck and in her car.

I don't know about 'a touch.' To get the car seat in my double cab rear-facing, I had to slide the seats up a little bit just for it to fit in the middle between the front driver/passenger seat backs.

Well most people slide the seats back ridiculously far. Idk about you but it is doable in the Access Cab.

A $600 trailer fixes alot of the "I need a longer bed" issues. It's also lower to the ground and keeps you from beating up your nice new truck.

The truck's cab has nothing to do with off road capability. The wheelbase does, but if you're not rock crawling or doing some super crazy hill climbs or going through 3 foot deep mud, either truck will be fine. Buy the truck you want and buy tires you need for the terrain you are working with. Tires will end up being the limiting factor on whether or not your truck will perform off road. All Tacomas have a very off road capable power train, they are narrow trucks, so you can get in tighter spaces than a full size, and you'll love driving it no matter what configuration you get I'm sure. If you need the extra cab space, do it, if you need the long bed, do it. I have a DCLB and I go on some rough trails sometimes with no problems whatsoever. These trucks are great in mud and snow. Just make sure you have nice mud terrains on them and you'll be fine.

Why in the world would i want to add a trailer to a truck when an access cab will take care of all my needs. I'm not buying a dblcb truck to cart people around in it. Not only that some of the lots we clear out are filled with holes and trenches, stumps etc a trailer would get hung up. No thanks! if people want to buy a dblcb and buy trailers go right ahead. You know what?! I went through this dblcb nazi sales tactic here in Socal where the dealerships tried to push me into a truck i did not want when i explicitly told them what I did want! At one point they even tried to push me into the dblcb extended bed and it was basically a land yacht. It was so bad they wouldn't even order me one in fact Toyota almost lost this sale. Thankfully I went through Bakersfield and everything worked out just fine. I think what the Toyota dealerships did here in Socal was not only wrong but just plain petty of them. From now on if we buy Toyota anything it will be through the Bakersfield Toyota they totally deserve our business.

Thanks I think we'll be fine with this truck. I would have liked to see a better tire than the stock Goodyears off roads. Never been a big fan of Goodyear tires but that's ok I think they'll handle everything i can throw at them. When they wear out i'll definitely replace them with the right tires. I also would have liked to have seen stock blacked out rims instead of having to pay $1000 more for them but that's ok also. I went a little over budget here, it was either that or a factory order I wanted the truck for the rest of the summer so everything is good.
