I just bought an '03 Tacoma TRD here in NM from a friend, 160K miles. I'm so happy. But I'm confused. Is the '03 TRD a 'pre-runner'? According to what I've read, I have conflicting info. One source says 'pre-runners' are only 2WD models, but another says it applies to 4WD. Some help here? Also, trying to figure out if the 'weather tech.' 2nd row floor liners would work in the extra cab? It appears they are made (the floorliners, 2nd row) for a 'Double Cab', and mine is just an extra cab. But I'm thinking it might work, maybe with trimming. Any help, much appreciated! 1st post.
    Thank you

TRD can be 2wd or 4wd, a prerunner is 2wd. You could have a TRD prerunner, but not a 4wd prerunner. TRD is a trim level, prerunner is a drivetrain.

    Basically, these responses.
TRD Offroad or Sport can be 2WD or 4WD.

    And this. Welcome to Thunderdome.

Thank you so much everyone. What a warm welcome. I'm in northern NM and love to rock-hound and prospect for minerals and ore(s). This truck has been a godsend! I've never had a Toyota. When I was kid I had a little Dodge pick-up that was a mtn. goat. Since no good off-rd. trucks for me, and that was a loooong time ago. I very much appreciate the advice of all of you, and thanks to you finally know it's not a 'pre-runner', lol. I'll try to post some pic's of truck soon. I just ordered some floor mats and a dash mat and some good fitting (I hope) seat covers. Next will be an ARB front bumper and rocker bars. Need skid plates as well. I was surprised to look under it and not see one under the motor, though it came from factory w/one. Maybe it was stolen in Albuq. I'm gonna ask my friend I bought it from.
    I thank you guys!

Hi guys. I'm learning how to use the forum, so please excuse my crap responses. Not sure how to respond to specific comments yet lol. I'm up north of Taos just about on the CO border in NM Matt. I love Albuq., did UNM there. m3bassman thank you very much for the info. and pic. Bad-Ass truck! What mine wants to be. I thought it looked naked below the radiator there. Yup, both missing on the front. There is one under the gas tank and front diff I think. m3bassman, who do I buy plate from, Toyota? Or is there a better option? Also, what have you done to your truck? I think that's an ARB front bumper, leveling kit? Many thx you guys! I mean it. This is all mostly new to me. Learning at 42
