    OCTaco,
Your MPG results are interesting since ARCO is not a "TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline".
Your statement might have hit the nail on the head ("Is it possible that shell v-power has so many additives that it actually ends up hurting ur gas mileage? In other words, your getting less "actual gas" per gallon? ")
The additives in higher octane gasoline do reduce the energy available by a small amount.

Shit this is true!!! One of my buddies worked for an oil refinery out in texas and said they sold the same shit to everyone. He also said chevron and arco is exactly the same gas only with different brand attached to it, and that the additives at chevron are crap.

I use to get crappy MPG with Arco gas years ago. This was proven time and time again in my old Accord. Maybe times have changed.

I ran 91 Arco once in my 92 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo. Not only did it run like complete ass (no power, sputtering, rough idle) it got about 40mi less to the tank (same driving habbits, well as much as it would do). After I went to Cheveron 91 and burned through the old stuff (about 1/3 tank use) the car went back to a smooth idle, running smooth, had all it's power back, and I still ended up only about 15mi shy of normal. Next tank after it was completely back to how it was. I never, ever will use Arco again.

Now I only use QT, followed by Chevron or in a pinch Shell only if I really have to (the nitrogen bit is actually detrimental.... so retarded). I hear stories all the time about "QT gets the same gas that the local grocery store does." Yea, I've watched the unmarked tanker go to the grocery store, and watched the QT truck go to QT. :cough: Yes, it's all originally from the same source, but the additives and how long it's stored do make a difference.

Also to note, using only QT gas I hit 19.43mpg on my last fill up. The engine had 1082mi on it, not even fully broken in. 4x4, d-cab, trd off-road. Did I mention most of that driving was fairly hard acceleration (though allowing max shift point 3k rpm minus two 4500rpm shifts) and 75-83mph highway. Not 'conservative driving' in the least.

Every gas company advertises certain things that they "claim" help your vehicles engine out. Chevron has the Techron, Shell has the Hydrogen (or whatever) molecules, and so on and so forth. As these "additives" might add some sort benefit to your engines performance and/or longevity but I call BS on it all! Off hand I know that Chevron around me charges 10+ cents a gallon and Shell a majority of the time is another 5+ cents on the Chevron price. I personally do not feel a difference in performance whether I use my QT gas at 2.65 a gallon over Chevron at 2.78. I would rather save the few cumulative dollars on my gas to buy things such as a Sea-foam cleaner or synthetic oil over regular, that is where I find my money better spent.

:laughs: You do realize QT is a top tier station that's in the same class as Chevron and Shell right? They just keep their prices down to make people "think" it's a 'bargain' station when it's actually top tier. That's why it's my #1 choice when available.

I love them even more now! On top of the free food coupon I get every month, the gas is great! Cool

Arco is owned by BP, so I'd guess the added mileage is due to the ground up gulf sea birds they are now adding to their oil. BTW, I once spoke to the tanker guy filling up the tanks at our local Vons Gas...he said he does a good part of the town and it all comes from the same Bakersfield refinery, with a tiny can of additives being the difference between one station and the next (when they remember to add it).
