Spotted this today. Pulled up the weatherstrip on the driver side. I really have a love/hate relationship with this thing.

Wont most/all vehicle develop rust in hidden areas like that? I cant imagine this is a Tacoma specific thing.

People who can afford to live on the beach either 1. buy new cars often enough it doesn't matter, or 2. don't give a damn and drive it until it falls apart.
I don't live near beach so not a worry

Live really close to the ocean and just checked and I’m rust free. It must be the salt mixing with the slushy water and getting trapped in there.

I don’t live on the beach but close enough to keep an eye on it. My last truck was a northern bought and the rockers where gone, body mounts gone (the actual bracket to frame part). Not sure how bad they were when I first bought it (they were covered by plastic cladding) but 7 yrs up north and 10 yrs in fl

Not a problem here...suggestion: Shoot a squirt of OSPFO rust killer in it...forever gone. Happens all mfg's. Our older fords and Dodges were the worst.

Have to say I've never had a vehicle with so many easily seen/heard issues. Rust as shown, rattles from dash, driver side window rattle, front strut noise, gear hunting, etc. I still have it but it won't be hard to get rid of if I decide to look elsewhere. I've had numerous new cars so I'm only comparing all the ones I've had. Drove an FJ cruiser 100k and it never had rust or rattles like this thing has had in its first 30K. Regret getting rid of it.

Rust is known to the State of California to be metal cancer, and as such is forbidden by law.

Yep, this schit is the schit!!!! The corosion free formula 3000 stuff of course! I am not an affiliate in any way but this is the best (overall) corrosion protection, stopper, preventative that money can buy. 3 cans will pretty much get you all the coverage you need to keep a car for 15years+ (initial application) in the rust belt (Toronto for me). I have bought 12yo cars with some rust starting and this stuff as stopped it in its tracks for the 5+ years i had owned them after! Minor yearly touchup is required. Even pressure washing the film that will creep up your doors doesnt affect the thick film of creeped goo. No drips ever either (past a few hours after application).

If you have a dealer near you that does the application even better as they have longer reach in panels (~$180CDN)

Even the Canadian Defense R&D has done studies about protecting assets from corrosion. This stuff was still the best on most cases. Here is some light reading.
