I wrecked my 97 a month ago and have been on the hunt for another truck. Well yesterday I came home with a 2000 Tundra. The Tundra's are a better buy around here and easier to find than 1st gen Tacomas at a decent price. This is not my daily driver so the few MPG hit is not a primary concern. The larger truck with more box and towing capacity actually fits my needs much better.

The one I got has 175K, 4.7L, Auto, 4x4, Limited, Access Cab. Frame still has the paint on it and looks like new underneath. The whole truck is very clean except for some dings here and there that any 17yr old truck will have. Tires are about 50%.

Wow, talk about a big step in interior refinement. This thing is quieter and rides nicer than my 2007 RAV4. No comparison there to the 97 Tacoma LX.

Anyway I will still be stopping by some as I need to get the drivetrain cut out of my 97 and get it parted. Anybody near north central Kansas wants to help pull it and get a price reduction on the parts hit me up.

There's no reason to leave, plenty of Tundra's, 4R's, FJ's, etc, call this forum home also. Good luck with the parting out. Someone will be very happy to get parts out of your old 1st gen. Congrats on the Tundra

Bye bud! You'll enjoy that Tundra, they are sweet, I almost bought a 1st gen Tundy vs my 2nd gen taco but no manual trans option and the interior looked too late 90's Ford for my liking, I'm very happy with my 2nd gen coma.

Don't forget to do the T-Belt, it's just as easy as the 3.4's and more important! If you have VVT-I on your Tundy then your 2U is interference!!!

The 4.7 is a sweet motor and just as bullet proof as he 3.4l a good friend of mine has over 500k on his original 2u and trans in his 04 Tundra.

Not at all, that's where TW is unique, especially when we have an official trading coin that includes 4R's, Tundras, FJ's, and Tacoma's and even Hilux's on the Series II coin. I'm not even including the whole 4R section, which could be another forum in itself besides T4R.org.

Sounds good. I am investigating the timing belt and don't know the history yet. I don't think that this early 2000 is interference at least.

I will keep hanging out here I guess. If I do need more in depth info, I would for instance like to find a PDF of the FSM, are there some good in depth Tundra sites?

If my hang up for driving manuals wasn't so strong I'd have bought a first gen Tundra instead of my first gen. It's basically a V8 2nd gen Tacoma going off rough dimensions. Sweet find!

Yes it is an interference engine. If there's no evidence it was done you should do it, even if it was done at 90k you're almost due again.

    Farewell...
I have been appreciating the older Tundras myself.
Can I ask what you paid in your area, over $5k?

I paid 6k even. I came across a few cheaper but they all had issues to worry about $500 for the lowest I had found.
