I'm new here, and very interested in learning about preventative maintenance on my second gen. I love my truck but I have to admit I'm guilty of running the crap out of it, with 93 octane I've been opening it up daily for 2 years now. No real off roading other than spinning out in some wet farm fields a couple times a year. Daily near red-lining... I feel bad for the abuse I've put her through and I've made and agreement to make it up to her, by healing the wounds with some suggested upgrades/modifications and recommended preventive maintenance. Hope you'll be sympathetic to the abuse and mild irresponsibility I've been unable to control myself with. See you in the forums.

I nearly redline my engine as well in my daily commute. Follow the severe-service maintenance schedule and you'll be fine. Most important element in there is changing the rear diff fluid every two years / 20,000 miles. Use a good grade GL5 synthetic fluid (75W120).

Thanks for the welcome, and the info. I'm at 37k on my 07 and rear differential fluid has never been changed. Time for me to study up. Thanks again!

I think we are all guilty of a bit of recklessness with our trucks. Some might not do it on the regular, but we've all done stuff like that one time or another. I have a bad habit of going in random fields in my neighborhood at night and breaking the back end loose, doing some crazy donuts, and all that stuff. :D We're just about all guilty of something!
Oh, and welcome to TW from VA!

Thanks bro. First baby on the way due in march. Trying to keep cool and slow down. Also need to spend the money now because come baby time, I'll be broke.

Ah, congrats on the kid! Hope it all goes smoothly. That's a good reason to chill out on the "reckless stuff-" Though I have none, so for now, it's still :mudding: and :burnrubber: for me!

There is a school of thought that believes running engines hard contributes to a better break-in and longer life than "babying" them. I think it's probably fine if the engine is already good and warmed up before you start. I thoroughly enjoy it when I'm at a stop light with some stupid ricer who acts like his shitty 4 banger auto trans commuting appliance is a fucking Lamborghini Diablo.
