I've started "prepping" lately. Stocking up on water and searching the sales for canned goods.
My wife and I started a garden this year for the first time and we are going to learn to can what we have extras of.
Ive made a go bag for both of our cars and Im in the process of putting together b.o.b.'s for the house as well.

It's better to have it and not need it.

There's lots of forums out there for this kind of thing. I've been over to whenshtf.com and once you get through the politically charged drivel, it's a pretty good site. LOADS of good info. I know there are more, but that's the one I've had experience with.

I vote we go to Chris4x4's house, wait it out, then move to Georgia for the long growing season. This could become a whole sub-forum on prepping.

Same here...oh, and you're all invited to come hang out here in North Idaho or stop by to restock on your way to the Great White North. There is a reason why I love living up here...

I think many folks around these parts have watched "Red Dawn" a few times and it's a very well "prepared" area!

There are various degrees of SHTF. September 11, 2001 was a SHTF day. The stock market implosion of 2007 was a SHTF. You just need to be ready for many scenarios.

The one thing I don't foresee is a long term collapse of urban infrastructure. Shit will still be there it just may not work as often or as good as it used to...

I look to the Argentina economic collapse of 2001 as a model for what could happen here in the U.S.

My wife just thinks I'm nuts when I try and talk about being prepared and if it ever comes down to it, I guess I'll have to make the choice to stay and die with her or load up my shit and leave her behind if she still thinks she wants to hang around a zombie filled bad horror movie urban area bullshit scene. Fucked up choice...........or non-choice. I still stockpile on the lolo under the guise of "camping" supplies. dailybread dot com has some cool 3 week backpacks of food for 2 people that seem reasonably priced for what they are. Also did a free sample and the stuff was very good tasting.

Hope you don't mind if I jump on board with y'all.

I too have harbored the same mentality since a teenager; however, I got married, had kids and chased a career. Now that I'm settled, I find myself wishing I was more prepared for the proverbial zombie attack. My wife also supports this idea...at least till talk of dumping nearly $10k into making my 2010 Taco an expedition truck...there she draws the line...for now.
Nevertheless, we are now looking to buy a hand gun (have several rifles now), and deciding how to prepare further. Look forward to reading all of your input andhope you allow me to join the team. :)
