Got back from the hospital Sunday night at 5. I'm steadily getting better and healing every day, but still won't be around for a while. Found out while in the hospital that this is the second most traumatic surgery someone can go through right behind getting your spine straightened (correction of scoliosis).

The hospital was really, really uneventful. Got there at 730AM, had my blood drawn... waited, waited, and waited, then finally went into surgery. I was in the OR for 4 hours, but the surgery only took about 50 minutes. My doctor is very, very, very meticulous. The last thing I remember before surgery was being wheeled into the OR, and talking to the ahnesteisiologist (crap, sp? lol) and his aides. They were really chill, and had hard rock bliaring out from a boom-box (no, it wasn't drugs, I hadn't govven them yet) - that's just how cool he was.

I woke up, had a crapload of family around me, basically said, screw you guys, I'm goin' back to sleep. I slept 'till the next day. Aside from the constant pressure in my chest, nothing else hurt except for two things. Every once in a while, I would move the wrong way, and the "anchor" which is holding the bar on my left side would hurt (say said these were muscle spasms), and it would feel like someone was driving a knife into my side. Lastly, (if you're a guy, who's been through a serious surgery, you'll understand this), when they took my catheter out, it hurt like a motherfocker (not the epudural catheter, but the urinary cathetar). If you don't know what that is, Google is it you wish. It's called a "Foley Catheter", and I never want one again.

Thanks again for the well-wishes everyone.

I'll try and check in as frequently as possible.

    Alex

Hey good to hear you survived! The pain will be worth it when it's all over.

    Sleep now. Good for healing.

Sounds like your on the road to recovery.

BTW ; did they deflate the balloon on the catheter before they pulled it out. You'd know, It's about 1" bulb. OUCH ! LOL

    Take your time and heal.

    Good Luck.
