THIS! I had someone try the exact same thing when I sold my rims and tires on craigslist. They said that they lived somewhere else but wanted the tires, so they were going to send a certified check in the mail and once I got it and cashed it they would send their moving truck to pick up the tires. I looked into it because this sounded a little suspicious to me. Turns out it's a pretty widely used scam. I learned that the bank can sometimes take up to a couple weeks to detect the check was no good. At that point, he already has the product and the bank then comes to you looking for the money. Needless to say I didn't sell to him. I would not sell to anybody unless they directly give you cash. Just too many scams out there

I've had all the "we'll send a moving truck or shipping company" emails and what not but none of which could talk to you over the phone. I've talked to the guy several times. He asked if I could tow it up there but being the classes I'm taking, I can't miss any days.

So if he sent a USPS money order, I would be fine? I would be able to cash it right then and it not be on me?

Money orders only go up to $1,000 I believe. Cashiers check from a bank is for higher amounts. You didn't sell it for less than 1k did you??

No, but he could send 2 :D I already sold the tires and rims and put the stock suspension back on (front and rear). I plan on putting my billy/eibachs on my next truck. I still have my All Pro leafs too, but my passenger side ones are broke. I wonder if I can order just one?

I talked to the guy again today, he's sending me the money and I'm going to keep the title to the truck until I make sure everything is clear.

I worked as a teller at a bank (pause for laughter). And in My experience as a teller and receiving these homemade drafts (money order) is that any experienced teller should be able to see/feel/tell the difference. Like it was suggested you could have your bank contact the issuing bank, or you could take it to the issuing bank and have them verify it is legit. Biggest thing is the protecto-graph (raised typing) is very hard to replicate.

Just an update for everybody, I received the check today, it was a business account check from WNC Auto Parts (the guy owns it). I went to RBC bank (his bank). They verified the funds and I received the cash in hand. I made 100% sure I was cleared and was not held reliable for it. They even called the guy to verify it. The truck is supposed to be picked up Monday. So after the guy gets the truck at his place and everything is settled. I'll be able to go truck hunting for sure. I've been doing some trolling for a while, so I have a few I'm looking at.
