And that’s not entirely all. If you watch it through that lens (the rooted in reality lens, which I recommend) there’s TONS of quirky stuff. Toyota’s and excellent production though, I give them props.

Every time I'm in the boonies cleaning up broken glass bottles from previous generations of campers, I wonder if these young "overlanders" take the same delight in throwing a glass bottle out of the window as they're traveling? Or throwing glass bottles into a firepit? I think not.

I've been around a lot and from what I've seen the yuppie types are clean campers. The old time peckerwoods not so much.

Two things I can't stand about the X-Overland series (I watched the South American version, so I don't know if it applies to all seasons........and I did like a lot of the places they went).

1 - The burbling, almost too quiet, ominous electronica music underscoring everything. I mean, I'm a music fan, and like a lot of different stuff, but a guy eating a hotdog with some Kraftwerk knock-off playing in the background just bugs me.

2 - The full-retard dialogue from the head dweeb. Gems like "after repairing the tire, I realized it wasn't about repairing a tire, but about the brotherhood of fellow adventurers that came together to make the wheels roll forward to new inspirations. If you ever have the chance, remember to lift your gaze skyward, and thank the clouds for the rain.....but don't wait too long, because the atmosphere is forever changing"........or some shit like that.

Again, it was the obvious stuff that gets remembered about the 70's. Only the really trendy people wore the ridiculous clothes. The truly cool people, still looked cool, and still look cool today.

Debbie Harry, Bowie, Lou Reed, Patti Smith.....All photographed in 1977......nuff said.

Except for the "you are nuts" I agree. Not everyone has the same experience, but my recollection of the 70's is that it was a rough time- war, leaders resigning in disgrace, nuclear reactor problems, economic stagnation and inflation, hostage crisis, oil embargoes, polyester leisure suits, etc.

Most people can't appreciate how all this technology improves our day to day existence. Yeah, most people aren't getting enough physical activity because of it, but that is a personal choice, not really the fault of the tech.

Also, things change. Just because things are the way they are now doesn't mean they are always going to be this way....try and make the most of what we have now because it might not be here tomorrow, imo.

First ones went on sale in this country in 1983. They were the size of a shoebox and cost about $4000.
