I had one of those Motorola bricks. Analog only, digital cells didn't get up to gear until Qualcomm reintroduced CDMA, then cellphone use really hit. Odd that CDMA was a WWII technology that wasn't used until Qualcomm reintroduced it to the world.

:rofl:Yeah. I’m all about enjoying those moments... but that sounds like break up poetry from a 14 y/o girl. I don’t like teasing them too much, in case they take it to heart which would kill me, what they do is good and I don’t want them to stop. But dat poetry

Oh I don't think they believe they are doing anything for mankind. I'm pretty sure they realize it's all about them having fun adventuring. And they have even figured out a way to get paid to do it. That organization is a full time job for at least 2 of those guys, and have you seen their HQ? They live in a fancy air plane hanger. Someone said it earlier. Overlanding is big business these days.

I do like their videos, but the narrative can get hokey sometimes. Overall, the production quality is great.

What I get cracked up about is all the "over lander come lately" videos that have flooded YouTube since XO started. Most of them are exactly everything that has been poked at in this thread. Yuppies videoing themselves cooking and dropping the brand name of every fancy fork they pull out of their fancy Velcro pouch that is strapped in the very organized cubby hole on their fancy trailer.

I also think that the term Overlanding was created because "off roading" was becoming un-PC, but there were so many people buying JKUs and similar vehicles that the aftermarket had to provide a guilt free way for those new PC owners to spend money on upgrades.

Oh... and apparently you aren't a real overland aficionado unless you've been to expo west or expo east LOL.

That sounds atrocious. I like to overland (I don’t even know what that means) but I don’t want to meet overlanders. Or talk with them about things. Minus the Toyota’s, I don’t think I’d get along with them.

They seem like a bunch of snobs to me. Ive seen a few of them in DVNP and at Moab with their Unimogs and shit.

I’m positioning myself to be part of the backlash. I already see it coming.

Overlanding is the next rollerblading. You’ll be embarrassed to tell your buddies you’re into it.

The shit thats flying around here is hilarious, a lot of fake news for sure, they are people that like the outdoors, doing it differently from you but harmless.

Just for something to do I did the #tacoma and #overlanding on Instagram to see the counts, #tacoma 1.6 million posts, #overlanding 320K posts.
Tacoma owners win in the posting department.

I can already see the conversation going to shit. “No, I don’t do anything special with my shit. I just shit places, like an animal on planet earth” “no. I just use the fire to cook the food. What do you mean? Yeah you just dig a hole and put wood in. Yeah. Yeah. You can boil water too, the heat heats all things. Hm? Yeah I guess even kale but I don’t know why you would bring that.” “... I sleep IN the bed of my truck. I use the truck bed as a BED bed. No, it’s just a wool blanket”

“Look, I’m sorry. Tell your gf I was just kidding when I said Sea Shepard were a bunch of pussies...wtf did she just throw a titanium spoon at me?”

How do you position yourself for the backlash? Do we get bows and arrows? If it’s like lord of the rings count me in.

    This is what I imagined.

Mainly do a run of patches with Calvin pissing on a rooftop tent. It’s all about capitalizing on the moment.
